Today I’ll share with you a compatibility technique from Vedic astrology known as vasya, which essentially shows magnetic attraction between people. I’ll then guide you on how to interpret it in synastry.
These magnetic attractions can make a person feel magnetically pulled and irresistibly attracted to another that it can make them feel like this is their true soulmate, their destiny, the one they’ve always been waiting for. There is a magical feeling, undeniable, and an attraction that may feel all biding. There is a magnetism that may essentially defy all logic and reason, and needless to say you will at least notice each other.
Let’s go through the signs, who feels magnetic attraction towards whom.
Please know that traditionally vasya is based on Moon signs, but through my professional practice with clients over the many years I have mostly seen it work with Sun-Moon signs, particularly between the man’s Sun and woman’s Moon signs. For people born during the day, their Sun may usually resonate more, and for those with night charts, i.e. born during the night, their Moon.
Please know that I use the Tropical zodiac, which I have found to work best through my many years of experience as a professional astrologer working with clients, as well as my own research, knowledge, experience and insights I’ve gathered through the years. I am a spiritual astrologer and mainly rooted in the Western system, but my practice is holistic blending various techniques from other systems such as Vedic, Shamanic and Esoteric, in additional to my background in mysticism, esotericism, and spiritual guidance experience.
Magnetic Attractions
For Aries:
Aries is magnetically attracted to Aquarius.
Leo and Scorpio are magnetically attracted to Aries.
For Taurus:
Taurus is magnetically attracted to no one.
Cancer and Libra are magnetically attracted to Taurus.
For Gemini:
Gemini is magnetically attracted to Virgo.
Virgo is magnetically attracted to Gemini.
For Cancer:
Cancer is magnetically attracted to Taurus and Scorpio.
Scorpio and Sagittarius are magnetically attracted to Cancer.
For Leo:
Leo is magnetically attracted to Aries.
Libra is magnetically attracted to Leo.
For Virgo:
Virgo is magnetically attracted to Gemini and Libra.
Gemini and Pisces are magnetically attracted to Virgo.
For Libra:
Libra is magnetically attracted to Taurus and Leo.
Virgo and Capricorn are magnetically attracted to Libra.
For Scorpio:
Scorpio is magnetically attracted to Aries and Cancer.
Cancer is magnetically attracted to Scorpio.
For Sagittarius:
Sagittarius is magnetically attracted to Cancer.
Pisces is magnetically attracted to Sagittarius.
For Capricorn:
Capricorn is magnetically attracted to Libra and Pisces.
Aries and Aquarius are magnetically attracted to Capricorn.
For Aquarius:
Aquarius is magnetically attracted to Capricorn.
Aries is magnetically attracted to Aquarius.
For Pisces:
Pisces is magnetically attracted to Virgo and Sagittarius.
Capricorn is magnetically attracted to Pisces.
In synastry:
The first things we see in the magnetic attractions is that two couples share mutual magnetic attractions: Cancer and Scorpio and mutually magnetically attracted to each other; and Gemini and Virgo are also mutually magnetically attracted to each other. This makes the connection between these two very powerful.
For the rest of the signs, it is preferable to see the connection flowing from the man’s energy to the woman, i.e. to see the man magnetically attracted to the woman, so that the energy flows more powerfully and they are able to bond more deeply exploring whether this is the right relationship for them. I’ll explain this further below.
In synastry, the magnetic attractions can be a beautiful layer of attraction – because these will be felt quite tangibly and pull the two partners together. These are powerful attractions and it can indeed make things quite irresistible, as long as the couple shares other supportive aspects of an intimate relationship.
A couple can be truly in love even without this celestial blessing of course, but naturally, if all the rest of the synastry is harmonious and emotionally connecting, they’ll may have a hard time resisting one another or staying apart if they should ever break up.
And this is where the warning comes and you need to be mindful of this: if you don’t have good synastry, this aspect can make it hard to see past the initially perceived magnetism and into the issues of your relationship. This can put a bit of a veil around your eyes and you can’t see the reality of the other person, and you may end up staying in something that is not particularly healthy for you; or you may be mistaking magnetism and attraction for genuine love.
Vasya is not about genuine love – it is about attraction. So if you have this with a lover, then you’d better be compatible in other ways or you’ll both feel like flying in rosy coloured clouds while also miserable at the same time because you can’t separate even if it’s not good for you.
In synastry, this attraction may often feel similar to powerful Venus-Mars aspects, or 8th house aspects, or even Nodal aspects. The problem is when this is the result of Pluto aspects in synastry, which are about obsession and need for inner work, but are often mistaken for love; and Neptune also is not good to see with these attraction because this shows quite a bit of illusion and inability to see each other for who you are and just believing in the illusions and attractions because it feels so sweet.
These attractions, from my perspective of spiritual astrology, actually relate to the native’s deeper needs in relationships sometimes. For example, Sagittarius is magnetically attracted to Cancer, and that’s because Cancer falls in their 8th sign within the house of intimacy, merging and deep bonding. As Sagittarius is a sign that usually needs quite a bit of freedom and can have some resistance to deeper vulnerability, the magnetic attraction to Cancer allows them to enter the private bedchambers of their 8th house and open more deeply in their emotional and spiritual worlds. By falling in love, Sagittarius actually experiences the real freedom they’ve been seeking, because true love allows the soul freedom; we unveil our true selves in the privacy of our connection, rather than carrying masks, false identities and old conditioning that only burden us and limits us from reaching our inner depths and true self.
Another example is Leo being magnetically attracted to Aries, which for the Leo path is important as they seek acceptance for their unique individuality; and Aries falls into their natal 9th house of higher perspective and the spiritual body, higher vision and dharma, foreign cultures and openness of mind. By being magnetically attracted to someone who can have the initiation and courage to explore and reach further in life, accepting the differences of people, Leo may feel like this person may see them for who they truly are also and help them shine higher, feeling a sense of purpose also.
Ideally, we would like to see the man being magnetically attracted to the woman. This is because it will make him more bonded to her, and the energy will be felt more deeply and meaningfully. It will make him more giving, generous, attentive and emotionally open to her; and through this she will too feel more deeply for him. Women naturally bond quicker, so it is always best to see the man’s energy flow more strongly towards the woman’s.
If, however, it is the woman being magnetically drawn but not the man, this bonding attraction isn’t really as strongly felt nor is it going to solidify a long lasting relationship. Moreover, if you have some harder aspects such as squares affecting your inner planets, these attractions may not be felt by you – not because they aren’t there necessarily on an energy level, but because of how you perceive and experience them. So naturally, as all else in astrology, it really depends on your overall chart.
In general, the one holding the magnetic attraction may feel like they would do anything for the other person. This is an aspect that also creates energy of innate giving towards the partner they are magnetically drawn to, which also emphasizes the need to understand clearly and objectively whether or not this is a healthy balanced relationship. In a friendship aspect, if unbalanced, one friend may be constantly giving and the other may begin taking advantage of their friend’s kindness and empathy without even realizing it.
As mentioned, this aspect may create powerful attraction between two people – and if the rest of the synastry is problematic, this can make it very difficult for the person being drawn towards the other to let go if things do not work out. This can be even more problematic if the couple have some Pluto or Neptune hard aspects, or if they have karmic ropes. This is why it is good to be aware and have the clarity of mind, so that you discern properly on how you may truly feel, and to be able to see the reality of the other person and whether there is true love between you.
The magnetic attraction as seen through the vasya technique can be a nice layer to a connection between two people. If you share good synastry, showing a shared true love and a mutual soul path forward, joining in dharma and devotion and unites by both soul and emotional connection, then your union may be blessed to be long lasting and able to sustain any obstacles or challenges along the twists and turns of life. To see whether you share a soul connection which will also make you feel connected to one another through the years on a deep passionate level while also support the soul growth and purpose for both of you, you need to look at the overall synastry and divisional chart connections also.
