Inspired by the beautiful ballet art of Edgar Degas, one of my favourite painters, I thought that today while I have some time in between clients, I can share with you some esoteric and mystical insights on the Navamsa chart.
I’ve shared with you in-depth on the Navamsa before, which you can read in Navamsa, the Soul Chart, and I’d invite you to read this first if you don’t know what Navamsa is. In few words, it is one of the divisional charts, perhaps the most important one, also known as the D9 chart or 9th divisional chart, which essentially shows your dharma, as well as gives insights on spiritual development, marriage, the second half of life and your potential hidden gifts and talents from past life deeds. The Navamsa is often seen as the soul of the chart and what are the actual fruits of the natal chart and what the life of the native in this incarnation may be in its essence.
Generally, the ascendant of your Navamsa is most important, as it shows your dharma and what you’ve earned from past life deeds, whether you lived a moral and ethical life. Essentially, the Navamsa ascendant shows the fruition of your natal 9th house of dharma and past life karma; so in order to see what fortune and wisdom and gifts you may have earned, you need to analyze the Navamsa ascendant rather than just the 9th house of your natal chart.
As the Navamsa is the divisional 9th chart, it is basically dissecting and seeking into your natal 9th house, so the Navamsa ascendant becomes the spiritual nature, quality and fruition of the natal 9th house. Our natal 9th house is our spiritual body – and we develop our spiritual body or etheric body through lives; the more virtuous lives we live, the more developed our spiritual body will be, and the more positive results we’ll experience in our physical body also.
Many people may wonder why someone may have a seemingly good and “righteous” natal chart with an exalted Jupiter in their natal 1st house, even though in real life they act in selfish ways and lead a dishonest life hurting other people; and the reason for that is found in the Navamsa chart. You can’t tell of the quality of a Jupiter based only the natal chart – you need to understand the Navamsa. The natal chart will not show you much about the ethics of a person, so this is why analyzing the Navamsa is quite important, and especially the Navamsa ascendant will show you what kind of dharmic life you’ve lived and what deeds you’ve done.
For example, if you have Jupiter on the Navamsa ascendant, then naturally it shows that the soul is quite blessed and it’s because they’ve lived a life of virtue and ethics, so in this life they will be blessed with their past life rewards. Jupiter on the Navamsa ascendant shows you may have been involved in spiritual development in past lives and had been very generous and virtuous, and you may have earned many spiritual gifts based on good deeds, spiritual growth, living a life of virtue and ethical and moral compass.
The 4th, 7th and 10th houses are also considered quite dharmic and karmic houses, showing earnings from past deeds, and especially if you have planets such as Jupiter, a waxing Moon, Venus, in these 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th houses it can show a lot of abundance.
For example, if you have a waxing Moon in your 10th house, perhaps you may worry about finances early in life but you shouldn’t worry at all – because this shows a promise that you will live an abundant life, as long as you keep following the virtues and high heart. The 10th house is an artha house, and in the Navamsa it shows material success and abundance, and this particular house is called “a promised house”, based on past deeds.
The Navamsa also shows your hidden gifts and talents, and these are mainly seen through the three dharma houses: 1st, 5th and 9th. These all, and many more, can be great insights, and yet the Navamsa is so much more than that, so let’s now dive into its mysticism and explore its deeper spiritual meaning. The reason why we need to understand the spiritual nature of the Navamsa is because it is a non-linear spiritual chart at its essence; and as such, it requires a spiritual interpretation if one desires to seek into it.
The esoterics and mysticism of the Navamsa
We entered a year 9 a few days ago, and the Navamsa too is a 9, so let’s look into this symbolism also. For those of you lovers of math, you know that 9 is a very important number.
There are two main things we know from math about the 9. Firstly, every multiple of 9 will add up to itself, for example 9×9=81, and 8+1=9. And secondly, 9 returns each number to itself, for example, 5+9=14, and 1+4=5, i.e. the 5 is returned to itself.
9 is essentially a mirror, and it is a very spiritual number. It is a completion, a full circle holding the mysteries; sacred things need protection in our world, which is why esoteric wisdoms are not meant to be shared with everyone and have their timing of sharing according to the student and their initiation, as it’s meant to protect them also because we can’t understand things before their right time and before we’ve awakened to receiving that.
The Navamsa as a 9 is a chart of mysticism, and the completion of you in this life time.
9 is a complete cycle as it doesn’t need anything more, which is why after the 9 we move into the 1. The Navamsa is that which is not linear, just like the highest order of mystics is not linear in knowledge as the mystic’s path is about the lived experience and continuously shaping and twisting itself along the way. A mystic’s path is unique to them, and it’s not a linear one; such knowledge is not linear found in book.
So the Navamsa reflects the part of you which is complete already yet not linear in logic; it fills in all the spaces in between, it’s the soul chart rather than the “body” chart.
There is a breath sustained within our body, so the Navamsa holds all the movements that we may not be subtle enough to catch, yet it is what is most important – this is why it shows relationships and partners and marriage, because as human beings we go after relationships and partners to be “full” or complete. But the Navamsa is all that which is already complete, just like the breath completes us even though it is subtle and not necessarily visible – and yet we may think it isn’t complete or we aren’t complete without partners but we already are complete; we just need to bring this to our awareness. This is why love is about acceptance, and we are meant to come into our full acceptance within and be okay with where we are and whom we are.
The Navamsa is a very spiritual chart, and carries the spiritual growth of the 9; it is about completion, realization, awareness, the breath – and the subtlety which happens beyond the veils which serves as the bridge for the completion and full circle. Just like our breath, our body without cannot move, but even if it’s too subtle for us to notice the importance of our breath, it is only that which moves us and sustains us.
It also shows the non-linearity as I shared with you, because insights from the Navamsa are not just due to this life – it interweaves the many other lives and deeds along the way. It is a chart of mysticism and non-linearity, which as such requires a spiritual interpretation.
For those familiar with Vedic philosophy, we see how Shakti sits in the heart of Vishnu and rests there calmly; she doesn’t try to “become” anything. This has meaning for the Navamsa’s breath, because so we too are meant to accept what we are right now without having to become some perfect idea from our linear mind or conditioned understanding. It is about our breath and our soul and resting into the home and church of our heart.
So the Navamsa will show you what you are meant to be accepting also – which is you as you are, and no need to resist yourself because you are already okay as per your higher self. Through that inner knowledge and acceptance, then you can express and release your potentials and talents to others rather than focusing on what you lack or what you should be as per some societal norms or linear thoughts.
Through that inner love, self realization and acceptance, your Navamsa gifts will be unlocked for other people because you will no longer be resisting yourself and your natural gifts; you will move like water, flow like water, rather than push against currents, or keep pursuing rather than allowing, walking against your true nature and essence. When awareness illuminates you, you can release the true most natural sweetest fragrance of you to touch the hearts of others also and contribute in our world the way you intended to.
When you sit in that inner contentment and become and move like water does, you become magnetic and all that you may receive you will have, and all that you need may come to you, and come more easily; you will magnetize all that’s meant for you for your soul growth and evolution and freedom. And the word isn’t even “magnetize” because it is already here and around your aura, you just need to allow it come in its time when it needs to.
One thing to keep in mind is that the Navamsa changes every 10-12 minutes, so you need to be quite certain in the accuracy of the birth time.
Note on Tropical and Sidereal calculations:
Please know that I am a spiritual astrologer who mainly uses the Western system, though I also use and blend techniques from other systems of astrology such as Vedic, Shamanic and Esoteric astrology. I use Tropical calculations for the natal chart and Sidereal for the nakshatras. Please know that Tropical and Sidereal are ways of calculations, rather than astrology systems, so for example, Vedic is not synonymous with Sidereal, as there are many Vedic astrologers who use the Tropical system in their practice.
There is no right or wrong, each practitioner chooses their own based on knowledge and professional experience. I’ve studied astrology long enough, and I’ve been a professional astrologer for long enough, to know that all systems are just different paths, and the deeper you understand astrology in its essence, the more you’ll see the truth that it will lead you to the same because you’ll see the common threads uniting it all in the universal wisdom. I’ve analyzed many charts, and I could see both the Tropical and Sidereal zodiac calculations lead to the same essence of the nature and life path of the person.
There is a saying: the wise astrologer doesn’t argue about techniques because he is not dogmatic; he is wise because he knows what technique to use and when and for whom and in what situations that are the most appropriate for it.
But just to clarify for those who may not know the difference between Tropical and Sidereal: The Tropical zodiac is based upon the Sun’s longitudinal relationship to the Earth, while the Sidereal bases the measurement of the signs from certain fixed stars. In this way, you may understand Tropical as a relationship dynamic, which at its core is the earth (the little place where we currently live!).
And in this way, at the core of the Tropical zodiac, and Western astrology, is free will and self realization of the individual towards greater consciousness and awareness. As I believe in free will, the Tropical zodiac is what I follow and Western thought is at the core of my practice, though my practice is my unique blend of mysticism, esoteric knowledge and studies and blending many techniques from Vedic (Jyotish), Shamanic and Esoteric astrology. I’ve studied all these systems and have found a way to blend them in my practice, which I believe deepens it greatly. There are many other reasons why I use the Tropical zodiac for charts and planets, and it’s too long to explain here, but this is what essentially resonates with me and aligns with me and practice most deeply. As I said, it is up to you, what you resonate with, and your own deeper knowledge and professional experience with clients.
But for those who use the Sidereal, one thing to know is that it isn’t just one way of calculating it – there are quite a few. This is because Sidereal and Vedic astrologers use different fixed stars to determine the first point of Sidereal Aries, and so there are different Ayanamshas. Depending on which one the astrologer uses, you may have slightly different degrees, and different mahadashas also.
I do use nakshatras in my practice as I’ve studied them for long, I love using them and I find that they deepen my practice. I keep them at their Sidereal zodiac calculations, because they are based on the Vedic philosophy and seen as deified beings living within the heavenly realm; and as such, they are star based and are, in my opinion, appropriately represented through a Sidereal zodiac.
I love astronomy, and took great pleasure learning it in university also, so in my Celestial Natal Readings I use astronomy to analyze people’s natal charts by first starting our reading with turning back the clocks and seeing how their natal skies actually looked like the moment they first opened their eyes on earth. And when we see the planetery positions in the sky, we would of course often see them more closely associated with the Sidereal zodiac; but Tropical and Sidereal interpretation of the same sign aren’t the same.
And the fixed stars within constellations, such as Sirius or Pollux or Regulus or the Beehive star cluster and all others star clusters in our sky are certainly purposeful, but in my professionaly practice I’ve seen it over and over again how actually perfectly it all aligns each time with the Tropical zodiac also, especially when we dive deeper into the native’s consciousness evolution and path of life.
The reason I am saying all of this is because our world is often so divided, and there is a lot of non-sense arguments, so may we just not lose focus of the essence of things; there is always something to learn, to evolve from and to deepen into. When we seek more deeply, we will see the common threads uniting, and wisdom reveals itself to us more brightly, thereby contributing to our unity. Choose whatever practice or zodiac or system resonates with you and devote to it, but aways keep your minds open to learning as this is how expansion happens.
