When we think of the celestial lion constellation, often we focus on fixed star Regulus shining brightly in his heart. But the body of the lion holds not just the bright royal star of influence, thrones and fame, it also holds within itself the voices of the forgotten ones, the quiet ones, the gentle ones hidden in the forests or wild temples. Many people who have fixed star Zosma, or Coxa who is near by, have humanitarian hearts and often become the voices of those whose voices have been forgotten or unheard.

Fixed star Zosma, found at the lower back and hips of the lion, is often written as star of victims, or the forgotten ones, but such understanding doesn’t speak of the full and deeper experience of this star. So today I’d love for you to open your heart and mind to join me for a deeper exploration of this part of the sky, based on both my research and insights, because there are nuances here, there is richness here. Regardless of whether or not Zosma touches your chart, may this be enriching for you.

To begin, fixed star Zosma is currently found at around the eleventh degree of Tropical Virgo. In the sky, she is seen at the lower back of the lion in the Leo constellation. Near Zosma we find Coxa, of whom I too will be speaking, and Coxa is currently at around the thirteenth degree of Tropical Virgo; in the sky, Coxa is at the back hips of the lion.

On the Euphrates, fixed stars Zosma and were part of the constellation Kakkab Kua, the constellation of the god Kua, the Oracle. Kakkab means constellation, and Kua is word that seems to hold three meanings, fish, god and oracle. As such, these stars were known as oracle stars, potentially giving gifts of prophecy or oracular wisdom.

The body of the lion has always stood for all people, and wildlife. Within the body of our earth, it is about the inclusivity of all and the understanding of interdependence. Within the body of a society, it is about understanding that the health and longevity of a society is only as good as how we look after the more vulnerable. Within the body of an individual, it is about holistic caring and tenderness for all of our parts. Within the lion are the secrets of creation. So when we walk with the lion, or are in the presence of the lion, we are asked to walk wholly, not partly.

An image from Stellarium showing the Leo constellation with stars Zosma, Coxa and Regulus.

The Leo constellation in our sky showing Regulus at the heart of the celestial lion, Zosma on the lower back, and Coxa at the hip.

Within the body of the lion, all is held – not just a royal heart, but also the kingdom with all other animals and hearts. All lives within this body, within this heart. Regulus is the brightest star in this constellation, and she is connected to not only fame and status and wealth, but also to world organizations such as the European Union, and she is connected to faith and churches also. The shadow side of Regulus is arrogance, entitlement, selfishness, greed … the list goes on. We all know this. Not all who stand on thrones have honour and integrity. What makes a king is the purity of heart and intention, and the values he abides by.

Nonetheless, Regulus touching a chart will always put someone or something in some “royal” status, and then, it is up to the native what they may do with this and whether they continue a path of honour or not. Success will be given though; fame, influence and prominence often also.

While Regulus shows herself victorious as the king with a true heart of a lion, and the perseverance and high ethics and values, with the courage of soul, not all ordinary people will be victorious despite their hearts, courage, ethics, perseverance and kindness. Not all who persevere get their happy ends; not all hard work is rewarded; not all who deserve joy receive it.

The lion is not just the king – it is the whole body, the whole people. It is all voices, all stories. The body of the celestial lion has always stood for the people, for all people – and it is there at the lower back and hips near tail, where Zosma and Coxa reside, where we find those whose voices aren’t always spoken loud on the big stages. And yet, the tail guides all animals; so when the king knows and hears the stories of all in his kingdom, from all corners of the land, and feels compassion for them, he may build a better brighter kingdom.

In Vedic astrology, Zosma is held within the nakshatra, or lunar mansion, of Purva Phalguni, ruled by Venus and the Vishnu trimurti energy. Purva Phalguni brings about union and the power of procreation, or prajanana shakti. This is about the masculine and feminine coming together in balance, in union, and birthing a new path forward.

In a native’s life this may be literally by birth of children, or creative projects, or birthing a new social order or path for the lineage, or birthing new perspectives, new ideas, new ways of doing things in our world. It is essentially about alliances, and the need for productive alliances, where we balance the masculine with the feminine.

When we enter this part of the sky, we enter a mansion where we are given what we can learn love through. A Vishnu trimurti energy will bring to us what we may learn love through. This may mean that we find what love is by seeing what it isn’t sometimes. Sometimes we learn compassion by humiliation; we learn boundaries by crossing them or having them crossed; we learn loyalty by betrayal; we learn freedom by feeling suppressed or imprisoned by someone’s control.

This part of the sky where Zosma and Coxa are, holds the voices of the forgotten ones, mistreated ones, marginalized ones. It deals with people who have in some shape or form been failed or abused by the system, people who are forgotten, and marginalized. People whose voices are not heard, whose hearts aren’t honoured, whose very life isn’t honoured. People or things who may have been forgotten by time itself, or a tradition or family lineage which too has been misplaced or negated. People who have been made to feel powerless by the structures or establishments.

All those people, and voices and animals, are the child of Zosma.

All those voices of people or animals unheard become your child, and their hearts you may hold in yours, and you may seek to give voice to those whose voice has been taken or unheard. You may seek to be the hands to help them, support them, raise them in their vulnerable moments.

You yourself may have felt forgotten at certain times in your life, whether in career, where somehow no matter how successful the higher ups kind of “forgot” about you in promotions. Perhaps you felt injustice from the legal system also, or perhaps it was through your personal relationships that you felt your needs nor voice wasn’t heard. Perhaps directly or indirectly, you or the people you’ve come across, have felt powerless because of the establishment or abused by the system.

But here is the thing: within the body of the lion, is the whole of the lion. Just as Regulus co-exists with Zosma and Coxa and all else, so we too in our world co-exist and hold each other. Here we have the ability to truly show what being human means. Here we have the ability to show what love is, and to embody it.

Both Zosma and Coxa are about the feminine energy and oracular wisdom, as both are of Venus nature. Feminine energy is about immersing ourselves completely with life itself, dance with life, engage with others, and as much as we may need and will have moments of retreat, which are purposeful, they are only meant to deepen our intimacy with the world even more. Because in the moments of inner self and inner deepening, we touch that which we all seek to touch – the union of which we all come from, the one whose face we may never see, but in whose hands we are. And through that inner deepening we deepen with others also, and into the heart of humanity.

What makes us human, is not skin or bones, it is being humane. There is humbleness in this. There is kneeling in this; remembering that we must never be too high not to kneel to help another. Knowing that in life we are equal, and each life matters and needs to be honoured, each human being and each animal also. Humility is the bridge to God, and bridge to love. True leaders are humble.

When we lead with humility, we rise as the true heart of the lion, and we are full bodied – tail, hips, paws, all. So there is grace. And there is respect for all those who have come before us, as the lion always speaks of family, lineages and connection to faith; this is why stars within the lion, including Regulus, have strong connection to faith, devotion, supporting spiritual pursuits and virtuous living, as well as, clearing lineage karmas and paving a new path for the lineage.

It is about not just the ancestors, not just us, but also what kind of life and earth we are leaving for those who may come after us. Because it seems we’ve been failing the younger generations. I am in my forties, and I see a lot of people often judge and criticize the younger ones, the so-called zoomers or alphas, but honestly, it’s us, as those before them, who have been failing them. How are we showing up for them? How are we making sure we may nurture a world of wellbeing and a space where they be their true selves and feel freedom of self, while guiding them to stay discerning and act with integrity and authenticity? How have we been modelling good values, healthy self esteem and healthy relationships? How have we been showing up for the younger generations, have we been sharing our wisdom and being good guides for them?

All people have their own unique paths, gifts, skills, and we need one another to support each other, because not all have the ability to express or showcase their gifts and skills. We all need support. I too need support to continue to do what I do. Everyone needs someone always. This is life – interdependence. This is what we are learning – how to actually love and support one another.

So whenever there is something you may do to help someone, do it. Sometimes people just need an encouraging word, or even just a smile when you walk past them. A lot of people have so much potential, so much talents, and yet they just don’t have the right people to support them, help them grow and expand, whether with resources or networking. I see so many incredibly talented people, who just didn’t get the opportunity nor support to showcase their talents.

There are a lot of quiet voices, who have deep wisdom we may learn from, but most people nowadays mistake social media followers for “wisdom”, or influence for “wisdom”, and this is not true. We miss so much opportunity to learn and grow because we look for sparkles not truth, and superficiality rather than depth.

At the core of humanity is our need to belong, to be seen, to be able to express our inner gifts or creative abilities, to be useful. So it is soul crushing when we feel unseen, dismissed, and our sense of honour has been robbed.

As these stars are currently found in Tropical Virgo, it has to do with doing something more tangible sometimes, especially if related to a person’s natal ascendant. So it’s like someone helping people build a water well, and if connected to the atmakaraka in the ninth house, especially if the Sun is the atmakaraka, it can show building or contributing towards building a temple, church or school, i.e. furthering wisdom or belonging or faith in people.

This part of the sky is about what can we do now even if “small”, this is the serving. On our higher paths, we are all here to be in service to humanity. And we may sometimes think it must be something “big”, but often times it is in the small things we do, how we show up for others, and our mere presence, in the times when no one is there to “report it” or post it on some social media. It’s kind of like the priest who listens to people’s confessions and this helps them feel less alone and relieved and held. It’s the person who has the ability to stay non judgmental and listen to their friend or parent with compassion, which is soul soothing for them. It’s the loving hands of the human who will kneel to held a tiny animal, who will never be able to say thank you in human language.

So this part of the sky may not always speak of recognition on the big stages, but, it shows true impact if we choose to. It shows spiritual connection also. It shows that with compassion and perseverance, as we are still walking with the paws and legs of the lion, we may build our kingdom around which others may find belonging also and gather up around the water well we’ve built. Others may find solace, nurturing, belonging, a thank you they’ve been heard and seen.

The lion is warm. Warmth is needed here, and in his whole body, his shining Regulus heart also. And it is about rhythm, and knowing rhythm. It is about compassion, kindness and patience of rhythm; walking with the paws of the lion with patience, perseverance, resilience, and know how and when to step how. Sometimes we need to step lightly, sometimes a bit more loudly.

It is about building our spiritual core and our intuition, and trusting in our senses; the sense of smell may be powerful and used as guiding compass here. Many natives with Coxa touching a personal planet or ascendant may have powerful olfactory senses, or “smell things out”.

Or for example, if you have Coxa touch a part of your sky dealing with the North Node, Jupiter or whatever is relevant to your current path and time period, if ever feel like you are in a fog in your life, you may let the lion guide through – let his heart, let his paws, let his steps. Let his senses, the intuition, the passion burning brightly in his heart and courage of soul. Let answers reveal themselves.

Sometimes I see planetary combinations with Zosma and Coxa, which show the native may help or donate towards the building of a church, school or some place where another may find solace, togetherness or sense of belonging. Perhaps literally you may be a priest or priestess others confess to and find solace in. Or it could show you build a place where others may find some compassion, nurturing and belonging by being heard by you.

It can mean you feed a little animal and help it survive, or you give it a home or care for it in the wild, even when it can’t thank you with human words. It can show you are able to reach the hands of something, who has given you its trust also, even though it is wild and untamed. It can mean you are able to reach someone in a way not all others are able to, because of its delicate nature. Or it can also show you as the voice representing those whose voices aren’t heard or can’t be heard. There are many paths and many ways of love.

The souls of Zosma, in the mansion of Purva Phalguni, speaks of a marriage in a heart, a balance between the masculine and the feminine. This is a nakshatra about marriage after all. The children of this nakshatra move through the world with a laughter reminding us of the joy within the heart of creation itself.

They are bearers of a sacred trust, keepers of ancient flames; within that body of the lion an entirety holding all people from all parts of life, not just crowns and thrones, but those in the quiet places. This is the ancient flame: a togetherness, and the humility that we are all of one with each other, people, wildlife and nature’s rhythms.

In the eyes of Zosma are these eyes that remind us of the grand design of the universe and creation, and inspire us to hold space for all nuances of the human experience also. This is a place in the sky that speaks us towards balance, creating balance, creating the marriage between the seemingly opposites – it speaks of the eternal dance between the masculine and feminine, between duty and desire.

So I believe in this part of the sky we may be touched with a profound appreciation for beauty, humbleness, and the complexity of the human experience as we move through life. With a heart of Venus, it reminds us to live life intentionally and fully, with purpose and beauty.

And perhaps most importantly, it reminds us of the interdependence of life and the important of balance – between giving and receiving, between responsibility and pleasure, between the individual and the collective or society, between the loud and the quiet, between the tears and laughter, between the spoken and more subtle. In the presence of the lion, carrying within his heart the secrets of creation, we walk wholly, not partly.
