“Blessed one, as senses are absorbed in the heart, reach the center of the lotus.” ~ Shiva Sutra

Each person has their own unique path, life path and spiritual path. For the heart oriented, those with the developed heart, those who are loving, feeling and attuned to the emotional and sensitive realms of themselves and others, love is their spiritual path. In the phrase above, the path of yoga towards union is for those heart centered people – because for them, love doesn’t have a reason. They love because they love, not because of a reason. Devotion is the veil through which awareness shows its beautiful face. And for the heart centered people, everything leads to the heart, everything

As I mentioned, every person has their own path towards spiritual growth. Meditation is a mind oriented path; prayer is a heart oriented path, and so on. There are many ways and many paths, but all essentially will at some point lead you to your heart. Because the only truly genuinely spiritual people are those with the warm hearts, loving hearts.

Today I’ll guide you through one of the higher divisional charts, the D20, which shows your unique spiritual path – it shows your spiritual potential, areas of spiritual growth and your path to spiritual evolution. Our higher divisional charts essentially show us the rivers of lives intertwined, the past and the future and the present, and our spiritual path and soul evolution. They are spiritual charts, because they hold intangibles and subtle energies. As such, being spiritual and non-linear holding times across times beyond times, these charts require a spiritual interpretation.

Please know that I am a spiritual astrologer using the Western Tropical zodiac for delineating charts, but as part of my holistic practice I use my unique blend of various techniques from Vedic, Esoteric and Shamanic astrology systems and symbology.

Note on Ethics:

It is important for astrologers to approach the interpretation of all charts with sensitivity, non-judgment and compassion. Many of the divisional charts deal with deeply personal subjects, and the D20 is a very sensitive chart as it deals with a person’s spiritual life and path, and these are sacred and unique to each individual, so please stay in sensitivity, compassion and non-judgment towards your clients. Also, please remember that these divisional charts require exact time of births and they are not stand alone charts – they can only be interpreted in relation to the natal chart and any other relevant charts.

As spiritual workers we serve God. And with our clients we serve the temple of God within them; for some it may be an awakened God, for others it may be a sleeping God, but regardless, our work is to use our wisdom and guidance to show light not darkness. Our work is to illuminate the paths, and use our knowledge and wisdom to guide our clients towards their higher path and to light their own inner flames and lanterns of wisdom within them. Intend grace on others. Nurture their inner flames.

Now, let’s dive in,

D20, the Chart of your Spiritual Potential, Spiritual Path and Evolution

Known as the Vimshamsha chart in Vedic philosophy, the D20 shows our spiritual inclinations, religious practices, unique spiritual journey and path, faith and philosophical nature, and devotion; it shows our potential for spiritual growth, enlightenment and moksha.

The Moon is really important part of our spiritual path and evolution, so her position in both our natal chart and divisional charts in important. The Moon is known as the lineage of our soul in Shamanic astrology, as it relates to past lives also; and it is known as our heaven in Western esoteric and karmic astrology.

Why is the Moon our heaven?

Our natal Moon shows us where we’ve come from, but it also shows our beliefs – what matters to us most deeply and our inner spiritual and emotional natures, our church within, our heart, our deepest most sacred self. Our beliefs is what creates our heaven we live in right now, here. Heaven is a home within the kingdom of our heart; and after each life it is said we reflect on what life was in our experience. If we gathered gratitude, this is our heaven and what will reflected through our natal Moon in our next life etc. Essentially your natal Moon shows what you most deeply believe about life itself and your experience of it. Our beliefs then shape a big part of our reality experience, and what we may believe is possible or how we will relate to the world and people around us.

Whatever your past life beliefs were, then it becomes your current natal Moon; and this “heaven” you built in is also your mother’s womb, towards which you were attracted and resonated within her own heaven in her womb. Your experience with your mother is essentially a reflection of your beliefs and your heaven. Your maternal lineage and your relationship to your mother also show your spiritual potential in this life.

If you desire to change that, you need to create a new heaven now. You need to heal your maternal relationships, you need to stay in gratitude and you need to build a belief system that reflects what you wish to live in. It first of course begins with your understanding and reflection upon your current belief system; and then, from that self awareness, you may spend time each day, even if only for an hour, in which you live in your new heaven. Listen to the kind of music you love, read beautiful things, expand your perceptions, listen new things, stay in compassion and love, stay in gratitude, treat your possessions with respect, nourish your flowers and clean your home, and focus on a clarity of mind and purity in heart. Whatever heaven means to you, it is something you need to spend time living in right now, and building it.

The position of your Moon in your D20 chart may reveal how emotions are woven into your spiritual practices and can also offer insights on potential limits or blocks related to meditation, prayer or spiritual progress. It also shows your ability or capacity to transcend materialism.

Suppose you have your Moon in your 12th house in the D20 – well, this may shows that you actually are a very devoted person, and able to perceive something beyond the veil; perhaps you are also gifted with many spiritual gifts and talents, are selfless and charitable and all inclusive in your heart and loving. This can give powerful intuition as well, depending on your other placements and your natal Moon in your natal chart.

The houses in the D20 essentially mirror aspects of your spiritual life. For example, the Ascendant reflects a person’s general approach and attitude towards spirituality, their inherent spiritual inclinations and self realization efforts, while the 9th house may show religious beliefs and luck in spiritual endeavours. The 7th house in the D20 is related to spiritual or divine partnerships, devotion, how partners may influence their spiritual path, and how the native too contributes to public dealings related to spirituality.

When it comes to our spiritual growth and spiritual path in this life, please remember that analyzing your natal 9th house is important and comes first always. The natal 9th house is essentially our spiritual body – it’s a light house, and shows how we may be developing and strengthening our spiritual body, which in the future lives become our physical body and ability to perceive higher truths. When it comes to spiritual progress, the Navamsa chart, or D9, is also very important, so it must be always looked at in alignment with the D20.

Other key planets to be understood more deeply within the spiritual lands of our D20 chart, aside from our Moon, are Jupiter, Venus and Saturn.

Jupiter is wisdom, spirituality, our moral compass, expansion and ability to know and act with integrity and higher truth. The more spiritually developed someone is, the better karma they have, the more you’ll see them have and express and embody qualities such as generosity, love, compassion, non judgment, discernment, clarity of mind, perception of higher truths, and ability to understand higher perspectives. These are all qualities of spiritually developed people.

In the D20 chart, Jupiter’s placement may relate to all of these. For example, if he resides in the 5th house it may show spiritual blessings and spiritual gifts, talents and gifts in divination, and ability to teach and guide others on a higher dharmic path. You may shine light and warmth upon others’ hearts, and your words too may be thought provoking for others and offer deep insights. You may be a natural guide.

Venus is a very spiritual planet and consciousness – she is devotion, bhakti, and in her higher expression and manifestation she shows and moves aligned to our high heart. Devotion is the veil through which awareness shows its beautiful face, and it is in our tending to, nurturing and caring for others that we grow and evolve. Venus shows spiritual wisdom in some people’s charts, because the ability to love is a high spiritual ability. Obviously, we are all here to learn to love, and be able to love more deeply and inclusively, more wholly and holy, embodying the so-called holy emotions.

The holy emotions are those of the high heart, such as purity, discernment, heart’s intelligence and wisdom, respect and reverence, nurturing and taking care of our physical life also, humility, compassion, listening, tenderness. To let God, we need to be soft – soft in skin, soft in heart, and opened in palms, mind and heart. Venus is that which softens things – she is the waves that soften even the hardest of shells and rocks making them smoother. She is the one that balances all that isn’t balanced yet.

In the D20 chart, she shows where you may be more able to devote to or perhaps where you may give of yourself more fully, so that love transforms you and becomes you in a higher expression and balance of both the physical and spiritual. For example, if she is in the 8th house, it may show interest in the esoteric and sensual aspects of spirituality, and hidden blessings through spiritual practice. Relationships are more based on deeper intimacy and spiritual connection. The 8th house here is a deeply binding house, so it shows you may be a deeply devoted person, who is willing to enter into an intimacy with all and with life itself, dissolving the boundaries and fully merging through love and in love.

Saturn in our D20 is really important also, as Saturn is the spiritual teacher and master of our earth and nature. Saturn teaches us wisdom along the way, across the various landscapes and temperatures of life on our path; he teaches us patience, perseverance, discipline and spiritual maturity also. We learn that winter reveals us wisdom, we learn that we can’t push flower seeds into the frozen ground as flowers will not bloom, it’s just not their time yet. We learn through the walks across stones and climbing mountains what truly matters to us and the strength we hold within ourselves; we learn, and re-learn, how to build fire with sticks and nourish what we already have, while keeping our faith and trust.

So in our D20 chart, the placement of Saturn shows us where we may face some obstacles or challenges, that will eventually serve our spiritual growth and maturity; it shows us where have an opportunity to learn and grow in wisdom, and we have the opportunity to mature through perseverance and how we master our earthly experience, resources, time and energy; as we do that, rewards will reveal themselves to us, both materially and spiritually. For example, if your Saturn in is the 2nd house, you may be learning about navigating through obstacles related to finances, fear of not having enough finances, material resources, and how you feel about yourself as the 2nd house is also about our sense of self worth. With dedication and belief in your talents and skills, through persevering, enduring, being disciplined and patient, and keeping the faith in yourself and the cycles of the land, this Saturn will also lead you to financial abundance and spiritual rewards, and mainly, you will learn to have more confidence in yourself, confidence in your personal values and setting boundaries, letting go of what no longer serves your beliefs and value system.

Saturn in the 2nd house in the D20 is also related to family history and heritage, so it may show you are gifted with rich spiritual heritage and lineage. The 2nd house on a spiritual level deals with healing, herbs, all movements that sustain our body, so you may have some healing talents also, or understand the spiritual purpose and healing benefits of nature, as well as folk, holistic and herb healing techniques. Family traditions may have gifted you many beautiful gifts and understanding of history, and how to marry the new with the traditional for greater benefits; it also shows respects towards family, traditions and lineages, which are important for our spiritual wellbeing and you may also be an important part of the healing of the lineage and ancestral lines.

The 8th house is really important in the D20, as well as the position that is 12th from your atmakaraka. The 8th house can show hidden spiritual blessings, and spiritual pursuits and esoteric knowledge and interests. And the 12th from atmakaraka may show specifics on your spiritual path. For example, if you have Mercury being 12th from your atmakaraka, sitting in the sign of Pisces in the D20, then this may show being a divine communicator, and can indicate a life path of sharing spiritual knowledge to others; and if it is residing in the 11th house, then this may relate to influencing many people or connecting with people through spiritual means.

This can also show artistic talents, and touching people’s hearts through your creative expression and words such as poetry or writing, which may feel healing to them also especially if your atmakaraka is the Moon; because what this position basically shows is that your atmakaraka is in the 12th house in the D20, where we see devotion, unconditional love, selflessness, intimacy with the world; and also spending money on luxury items for spiritual reasons.

An interesting thing often happens in the D20 chart; and it is that we see the union between the North Node and the South Node, also known as Rahu and Ketu respectively in Vedic astrology. The union happens becomes this is God and part of our spiritual nature. The North Node is the future, and the South Node is the veils or fragrance of the past. In our natal chart they will always oppose one another, but they are part of one axis – i.e. different perspective within one greater experience. This life is a life of contrasts, but we are meant to balance the opposites and polarities, and come into this sacred marriage of union.

Yoga means union. It is when the past kisses the future in the present and we deepen into the timelessness of the present moment, the point of all creation. There is no more me versus you. So naturally, the D20 shows the union between the North Node and South Node – the point of kiss or embrace, which shows an area where you may have come into some kind or level of deeper understanding of what union is along our spiritual paths. It may show a point of karmic balance, or karmic rewards, or something that will be happening naturally, so there’s no need to “worry” about it, or focus too much on it to make it happen or force it.

The union of the Nodes here in the D20 shows where you have deep faith and strong relationship to God; and if you have over six of these unions in your divisional charts, it shows that overall you are a very spiritual person, quite evolved and wise, and have gathered gifts along your spiritual evolution. I’ve spoken about the Nodal unions before in depth.

In the D20, if the Nodal union happens in the 7th house for example, the relationship you seek with a romantic and intimate partner is one that is spiritual and sacred; and it promises an entering of such bond in this lifetime. It shows a gift from God for your partner in life, a potential to unite with your true beloved or soulmate, and through that union, reach an even deeper spiritual union for the path to moksha. True soulmates come together for a greater purpose, and through their union they often bring more harmony and contribute meaningfully to the world and the people around them.

The D20 Nodal conjunction also shows that you may be a very deeply devoted person, and very deeply spiritual. Your life, and many past lives, have eventually made you come closer to God. This is why it is natural for people to have the Nodal conjunction here, because it shows we all can reach God within us. This life essentially allows us an opportunity for a deepening, and what we may choose to do with what we have is only up to us and our free will; free will is our ability to consciously choose to make life more conscious and live in a more conscious way. But regardless of what we may choose, the Nodal union shows us that God is always within us in a union, and only waiting for us to hear – we hear when we listen.

The closer we are to God, the quieter he becomes. We no longer have big sparkling omens or signs outside of us all the time, because he is now very close to us as we’ve deepened in trust and “graduated”. We are no longer outside of the temple of God separated with bricks or structures or walls – we are in the temple now. And we may not even know how fully in his hands we truly are and held, because there’s a full embrace now.

We may sometimes still doubt and be lost or confused, that’s natural in this life to feel, but deep within us – on that subtle higher consciousness level that is shows through these divisional charts – the Nodal union in the D20 shows the spiritual core and self, and your ability to let go and let God, and leave it all to him to lead you.

When we are in his temple, all becomes more quite as if you are in the center of the church. You are under the dome now, where the light is above you and you can let it in. Here in the center of the church, where your heart is also in the center of you, it is here now about listening. As we deepen in prayer we learn to listen, as we deepen into our breath we learn to listen, as we deepen into our body and stay in presence of our now we learn to listen. We realize it is about the listening.

And when we listen we hear. And then we may also become a prayer with open eyes. We become a deeper appreciation of each moment; we treasure it deeply. Such love and presence transforms us and kisses us into the present moment of union. We are all here to build love, contain love, emit love, and express it through our every day, become its embodiment. Our hands become it, our feet become us, our words become it, and our gestures and movements too, along the circling staircases of ordinary life, become love’s movements also.
