You may have noticed that the dress you really love, or the book you really love, are all bound together by secret threads. To other people, it may not make sense why exactly you love that dress or that book and yet not love another. It’s a secret that only our heart knows; a mystical calling of love pulling you towards itself.
And then there we are … not really knowing why we love something or how we even came this far, but we feel it more than one life should allow; it makes sense to us even when we don’t understand why; it runs as a stream in our being, our soul calls us to it, pulls us to it, like a secret thread.
It’s these secret threads that pull us forward in life, usually in the form of desires, as we go deeper into the unknown not knowing why. It’s the little things that we are attracted to, drawn to, like our interests or hobbies and all the times when our eyes shift towards the distance as if we are looking for something, waiting for something, watching for something, listening for something. What are we seeking?
We’ve never actually had it to dream of it and yet we still do no matter how long time passes. Along the way we had some things that temporarily possessed our soul – the person who wasn’t quite it, the job that wasn’t quite it, the fabric that wasn’t quite it. But these too were part of the path. All those things were just hints of it; glimpses of almost but not yet, promises never quite fulfilled, echoes that faded away yet still linger catching our ears in the wind-blown leaves. What are these things? These desires that pull us so wholebodily and wholeheartedly even when it doesn’t make any sense, even when it seems impossible to happen. It’s the secret threads connecting.
Until one day we find ourselves before the landscape, which embodies everything that we have been looking for our entire life; the echo that called us for so long now swells into the sound itself.
And we know.
This is the thing I was made for.
We all know this. You know the famous people who tell their stories – of how they always dreamed of being a singer, a writer, a dancer, a scientist since they were a little child; they knew it in their bones, undoubtedly, that this is what they’d want to do when they grow up and they did, somehow, someway it happened, and then they told their stories. And you yourself too have had something you may have dreamed of since you were a child – something that never really left your mind nor heart, no matter how unlikely it may have seemed, no matter how even impossible you just knew deep inside it’s meant for you.
It’s not just the famous people, they are just the ones whose stories we most often hear, but go ahead and you can listen to the stories of people around you: the boy who imagined himself to be a writer and no matter how much criticism he had and no one believed in him, he still did it; the girl whose greatest desire was to find her right person and build a family with him, and it all came true, no matter how long it took for them to find each other; or the boy whose favourite toy was lego and he grew up to become an architect.
And we also know how it feels to suddenly feel a powerful desire, a knowing deep within, in our bones, that then pulls us towards a particular direction, only for it to then come true. Like the woman in her 40s who suddenly felt she needed to have a child, and she became pregnant soon after; or the man who suddenly felt he had to go overseas only to then meet the love of his life and fall in love with her at first sight, knowing she was his one. Such desires coming from our depths are soul guided, they come from a time before time, and have a voice too powerful to ignore, a voice that almost feel tangible, like hands, that will pull you where you need to go.
I sometimes have clients who ask me “Will I fall in love, I’ve always longed to have a family with children and husband, is it meant for me?” And the answer is always yes. Of course it’s meant for you. Because you could not have had that desire, and I mean the true desire from deep in your core, unless you were meant to experience it.
We sometimes mistake that for an ego desire; we think it’s our ego that desires and longs for that but these kind of deeply rooted desires come from a place much deeper – they come from our soul. That’s why it’s hard to just not still long for it even though years pass by and the singer isn’t successful yet, why the writer keeps writing – the passion is overwhelming; and why a person will still desire and wonder “is it meant for me”. Yes it is.
Because the ego will only want what it can get or have validation for – but the soul doesn’t care how many years go by, what others think, what society thinks, what we think and whether or not it seems possible or not. It wants what it wants – and it’s knows it will happen because it has the hawk eye’s view. And it’s way to guiding you towards its fulfillment is through sending you these desires, the secret threads, which you will follow; because it’s inevitable.
Our unconscious will delicately guide us in certain directions and though we haven’t installed the sun yet – we just follow it blindfolded with trust and the wisdom of our heart. And always, always in some mysterious way, for some mysterious reason, threads begin to form patterns, rivers sing when moss is cold, and suddenly all begins to take substance, coming into its form and being. And then we have a book, or a wedding dress, bound by a single secret thread; and what emerges is a love story, a hope story, and a story of trust.
Follow your heart’s desire.
Trust it.
We’ll bump into some things in the dark but then somehow, something will shine through, forming a luminous thread to unite us back.
The word desire comes from the Latin desiderare: “to long for,” which comes from de sidere: “from the stars.” From the stars.
Our desires are our gifts from the stars, a language through which our soul guides us and moves our body forward to fulfill its purpose in this life; our desires guide our heart towards our destiny. Love moves us, and it is this which shapes us. An astrologer becomes a great astrologer because of their love for it; because of their devotion to it. Devotion and love are what and how we shape our destiny, so desire is how we move towards it – otherwise why would we move anyway? Why would we walk into the unknown lands?
This is why in astrology the North Node of destiny speaks to us through desires, and is known to give strong powerful desires – because it is moving us towards where we need to be.
If we have a strong desire for something, this means that we are meant to experience it because otherwise we would not have had that desire in the first place.
We incarnated in a physical body because we had unfulfilled desires from past lives and these desires generate the birth and the driving force throughout our life. By following our heart’s desires we therefore follow the path of our destiny to fulfill our soul’s purpose.
Often times in life the strong feelings that we suddenly experience towards something, when we are mystically being drawn to it, are the precursors to the physical manifestation.
Because what you seek is seeking you.
The heart knows, always.
