This essay is an excerpt from my book on fixed stars, Of Soils and Stars, Volume II, which you may order and learn about here.
I don’t remember when Acrux first came to me in deeper knowing, as I’ve been diving into esoteric mysticism for my whole life, but I remember a time when I saw it visually in the natal sky chart of one of my clients from Australia.
In her Celestial Natal Reading, which are my special readings where I combine astronomy with spiritual astrology, when I opened her sky, there it was: the brightest star from the Southern Cross constellation, Acrux, rising like the flame of a candle in a monastery. Bravely, truly, purely. Knowing no wind will ever blow it out nor even simply move it.
I already knew, seeing the rest of her chart, that she is meant to study and work in fields of astrology, psychology, mysticism, theology, or whatever field in life that seeks of us to understand patterns and cycles, and see and perceive beyond the veil, the things that are not always seen yet felt within.
She had doubts about it during that time, or rather mainly, self doubt. She expressed her deepest love for it, yet feared she won’t be good at it as it seemed so complicated and difficult. But this was part of her path, and all was going to be okay. Trust is one of our greatest lessons we learn here; and to learn trust, trust in life and trust in ourself, we need to walk that path, which isn’t always easy or certain.
It’s been seven years since, and today she is completely in love with her studies, now beginning to practice in that field as a professional also.
I know what that fire within is. I know years of devotion, where we devote our whole being to something, and like monks near our candle flame in our veiled rooms we devote, dedicate, create, with endurance and perseverance and just pure faith, trust and love. There are things in life, vows that are made within the church of our heart, that we just do because we can’t not do it. Our soul, our heart, our inner truth will not allow us to do something that isn’t true to us anymore.
We live in a world of instability, uncertainty and deeper separations, so today I wanted to share with you about this beautiful fixed star because she carries a universal wisdom for us all. Whether she touches your chart, or you seek to deepen in your spiritual understanding of self and just life itself, may this be enriching and soothing for your path forward.
Acrux is a powerful star, bringing it charisma, magic, spiritual influence, and potential to unite people as one. She is actually not a single star, but rather made of multiple star systems, primarily two consisting of two brilliant blue-white stars, making her one of the brightest in the southern skies. Her proximity to the Milky Way speaks even deeper of the star’s influence towards love and unity for all.
Acrux is currently around the 11th degree of Tropical Scorpio, and is relates closely to fixed star Alphecca, which I’ve talked about in depth in my essay Fixed Star Alphecca, the Maiden with the Flower Crown. In a way, Acrux is the flame which makes the crown – she is the vow, faith and intention that makes a real crown. She can also be seen as an act of carrying esoteric fire into the world, often times before such knowledge is fully understood or accepted.
Acrux represents the hidden consecration of the soul – the moment where spirit chooses embodiment not as limitation, but as sacred work. While the Southern Cross isn’t seen from our northern gaze, and this star too isn’t seen from our northern hemisphere, Acrux anchors the cross at its deepest point, reminding us of that which we hold sacred in our heart; and that regardless of whether or not something is seen yet or not, we all should nurture our connection to the divine, and keep the quiet, devotional and unwavering faith and trust in our work along the way.
Let’s dive into the unique landscapes of Acrux and the Southern Cross; we’ll begin with the visual images and understand the skies, and then I’ll share with you deeper insights about what wisdom and beauty this may give your life’s path …
This piece continues into a deeper exploration.
