In a way, our natal charts are a spiritual study of that which is consumed by time. Every single one of us is a little seed, which has its unique impressions from the sun, memories carried, and its own nutritive cycle that it needs to grow as beautifully as it is.

Once we understand our nature, our soil, the weather and the climate, then we know better how to grow in our own way and come into our full essence. Our natal charts show us these natures and cycles – for we need to know what to burn, what to eat and what needs to be devoured completely so that we reach our soul’s purpose. We need to know what nourishes us and what needs to be nourished.

As a spiritual guide and intuitive astrologer I walk you through your unique physical, emotional and spiritual landscapes. And this is what your natal chart shows: a land. A wild land. A land you live in, and out, and through. And like any land, it has timing and cycles of the land, it has seasons and right timings. And like any land, it is in a continuous relationship to all else around, beneath and above it. Astrology is a language of cycles within cycles within cycles.

In this way, astrology isn’t merely about charts and mathematics, it is about understanding nature and wildlife; it is about how nature speaks at birth, how the soil speaks, the temperature and landscape of the seeds we are born of, our nature. Said more poetically, it is about the nuances of the colours of the chart.

Celestial awareness deepens knowledge of astrology. Stars too are to be seen and witnessed with our own eyes. This is what deepens our understanding. This is how we dissolve layers to reach the essence. There are many paths to reach the sacred well, the secret pond of knowledge hidden in the heart of things, and today I’ll share with you what we may learn when we observe the real sky by sharing insights about a very mystical Saturn – when Saturn appears ringless and what it means.

In my Celestial Natal Readings, or The Natal Starry Sky Stories, or when you choose your Astrology Soul Purpose Reading to also combine the celestial analysis, I essentially open up your sky to the moment you first opened your eyes on earth; and with astronomy images from that time, I then guide you through the wisdom and beauty of your chart.

Once we do that so much is revealed to us – stories within stories, languages that are non-linear, and this is how we begin to understand astrology is a language not necessarily loud or written in ancient books, but one that is witnessed and evolving. And this was how, many years ago, I first learned about the ringless Saturn.

From our perspective on earth, there are very rare events in time throughout our history when Saturn’s rings appear invisible to us. This is an event called the “ring plane crossing”, which essentially means that the rings of Saturn become exactly edge-on, and as such, Saturn looks ringless to us.

This event happens once every 13-16 years. Actually, last year in March 2025 Saturn was ringless, as well as again in more subtle ways in November 2025. The other events were in mid 2009, and we also had triple crossings in 1995-1996, and before then in 1980 and 1966.

This is spiritually important, as it often indicates a somewhat of a cosmic reset, a thinning of boundaries, release of karmic patterns (if one has done their work), and some perhaps even collective dissolution of rigid boundaries or structures.

The ringless Saturn seeks us to become authentic and unhold our hands from where we carry things not ours, from where we commit to things or people not because of true heart but because of some obligation.

If this happens in a natal chart, especially around their Saturn return, this is about rethinking commitment, and it may not feel easy. But the intent here or invitation is to commit to what aligns with your heart, truth and inner integrity.

It is also about letting go of structures that keep you feeling imprisoned or contracted in some way or suppressed; and if you do the inner work, the ringless Saturn time phase may give you the spiritual rewards you seek, as these are our greatest gifts.

The ringless phase also often shows some karmic graduation in some area of your life, and even if it feels a bit off in the months following, as if “nothing is happening”, it’s because the plate has been cleaned, the path has been cleared, and now it is only those of resonance to your new maturity and awareness that may come to you. These phases sometimes feel slow and quiet, but it’s just aligning so that the right people meet you in your new awareness level.

Let me know share with you an example, and I’ll then dive into the deeper symbology of the ringless Saturn as it relates to the vows we make and inner faith.

In this chart we see the ringless Saturn of this native, and what’s interesting here is that this was his only planet above the horizon being visible, as well as this was his chart ruler. We see the ringless Saturn in a quiet part of the sky, approaching the tale of the great wise whale Cetus, but currently still in the quiet space.

This part of the sky is actually part of Tropical Pisces, but falls within the celestial Pegasus constellation, which I’ve written in-depth about before, and this is the Vedic mansion called Purva Bhadrapada, meaning the “first blessed foot”.

Firstly, the ringless Saturn, combined in aspect to the native’s overall chart, shows for him that he carries a sense of universal wisdom – he is able to see things from a higher perspective, in a way that isn’t “dogmatic” but rather open to new learning and dissolving boundaries.

Within the celestial mansion of Purva Bhadrapada, his Saturn resides in the place between fire and water, burning falsehood to guard the sacred.

And the fixed star touching him is Markab, the one residing in the chest of Pegasus; Markab is also knows as the saddle of the horse, the point of stability, and keeping grounded when the sky opens. This gives him immense intelligence also, and a very stable and grounding presence.

Here we see the fires burning inside our chest of truth and authenticity, and it is these fires of clarity of sight and integrity and ability to see beyond the limitations of dogma that allow us to burn illusions and thereby protect what is sacred in our world.

And it’s not just a perception thing, because Saturn is about real matter, real hands and bodies making our work. It is about not just thinking or wanting or desiring, it is about walking our walk, speaking intentionally and actually making things.

Saturn is the guardian of higher consciousness, and the rings are kind of like the initiations of portals to be opened through the lessens and maturity.

In spiritual astrology, Saturn is the Dweller at the Threshold, the keeper of the keys to the gate, and it is through him alone that we may achieve eventual freedom and spiritual maturity through self-understanding. In Shamanic Astrology for example, the judgment around planets or aspects such as conjunctions, squares or oppositions, are completely done away with and replaced with intent. And for Saturn, the intent is growth, mastering limitations, growing through limits and boundaries, and eventually – coming into and rising of spiritual maturity.

So the rings, or rather the ringless phase here, may often also show a kind of open field blending the spiritual into the physical. Many natives of these phases may not feel as attached to the material, or perhaps that’s how you felt last year too in your own life when Saturn’s transit was its ringless phase.

Because these natives, and for all of us the ringless phases, seek us to dissolve boundaries and lead a life more authentic to us, this also creates a smoother or easier path towards understanding spiritual concepts, growing spiritually, expanding our perceptions. It also shows we need to know clearly and practice the universal laws, such as the exchange of energy, and understand karmic laws also. It seeks us to act with integrity and honour and hold a strong moral compass within.

The rings may also often represent karmic knots or entanglements or binding actions of karma that must be disentangled, so the ringless Saturn gives the ability to recognize these and be able to unhold from these sooner.

During the ringless phases, it’s kind of like “let’s see now how we will act and what seeds we’ll plant without the usual boundaries, whether the energetic or material boundaries”. This is when you can show what you are made of, what virtues and principles you hold.

Karma is action, dharma is principles. For every action is a consequence, and principles guide actions. So when we act with dharma and virtue, the rivers of karma are clearer, purer. We pour clear water, pure water into our rivers, rather than stones and mud.

From an esoteric perspective, the rings also symbolize the covenant with Christ, like a wedding ring. So when they aren’t visible, it’s kind of like the marriage is already the union of flesh and heaven. Faith here comes from early age, and even if not loudly or visibly expressed, it’s an inner world or vow these natives may hold within themselves. This depends on each unique chart of course, so it’s not always the case. For some natives, if they have turned their hearts away from virtue, the lack of rings may sometimes feel like all at once is going wrong. In these case look towards spiritual growth.

The ringless Saturn marriage speaks of a union, commitment, or divine connection that existed before the current, visible covenantal structure was established. It is a vow not made of religion, not made of time, not made of human structures or words or titles or human made silver or golden rings.

Scientifically, the rings of Saturn are not permanent features, meaning that Saturn has existed in a “ringless” state for vast periods of time. This pulls us inward showing the vows beneath crowns, and that faith too incarnates as faith, and love too incarnates as love.

In a spiritual context, a “ringless” marriage would symbolize a state of, or need for a union that feels timeless, that exists outside or before the current, structured, and formal covenantal “rings”. It implies a return to a state of being where the union is defined by its essence rather than its outward, visible boundary, such as the rings.

It is about seeking vows and relationships based on truth and soul and heart. It is a union, a vow, a marriage, that doesn’t rely nor depend on outward, formal structures. Because what matters isn’t the white picket fence, it is what holds us together inside of our union. But to get to that, we need be really honest with ourselves. And we need to know what to nourish and what is time to let go of. Self knowledge is key. When we know who we are and what we need, we make more aligned choices also. May true love only with be your ring.
