dressed i am in the perfume of the moon’s clairvoyance,
and i unveil you with vapors of white jasmine,
be soft my night, he is coming
be soft my wind, he is speaking
be soft my body, it is time to unbody
~ from Moonhold by Lubomira Kourteva
The word clarity has two meanings, one ancient and one more modern one. The Latin word “clarus” meant clear sounding, ringing out, “clear as a bell”; so in the ancient world, clear came to mean lustrous, splendid, radiating light. The moon has this kind of clarity when she is full, and so do snow, candle flames and wind chimes. But that usage is now almost obsolete. In our modern world, the word clear usually means transparent, free of dimness or blurring that can obscure vision, free of confusion or doubt that can cloud thought.
As humanity we often think the modern clear is what we need to be looking for – that what we should be looking for is a kind of sharp edged, single truth, that whatever we don’t or can’t understand is not really worthy of understanding. But this kind of mindset isn’t “rational” nor even “clarity” at all, as it is actually lack of courage. Lack of courage to see beyond the boundaries of our mind, of our rationalizations, of our limiting beliefs and narratives. The world is much bigger than this. And much more interesting. More subtle and nuanced. And we don’t need to understand it all with a linear definition, nor do we need to rationalize it constantly. So much happens in between the lights, and wind chimes too. It’s all pregnant with possibilities.
It’s good to see clearly with both senses of the word. To see clearly in the modern sense – to pause and see through the moment to the landscape as it is, clear, unobstructed, undimmed. Where surfaces are brightly coloured, where details are defined, and where the stones in the rivers are somewhat fixed in their places and time, just as the trees are. These are visions to cherish, like jewellery.
But it’s also so precious and so needed to see the landscapes with our ancient clarity. To see the nuances of the water colours, the brush strokes of Monet. To see the snow and listen to the wind chimes, without needing to analyze every detail and intellectualize the speed of the winds. To fall into the present moment, listen to the subtle languages of waters and stars, and how it all shines and speaks even if we can’t understand it all with our human minds.
To embrace mystery, in both its ancient and modern, holding space for the kind of clarity that can involve accepting uncertainty rather than needing to know every detail, and choosing to stay present. And how it all – stories within stories within feelings and senses – all moves through the waves and fabrics of time and timelessness. Non linearity. Like the language of poetry and the sea. Filtered through our inner world, and connected to us in some ultimate intimacy, infused with meaning, luminosity. All lighted only from within us.
and in the light of the moon is reflected
the inspired soul, pure as it is always
the queen of the sky, ethereal and undeniable,
dancing to its great eternal lover
Spiritual astrology is a beautiful ancient practice, an eye awake and seeing; seeing beyond the surface and offering wisdom, insight and guidance for people. Real astrology goes beyond the mundane things or predictions, it is meant to elevate you beyond all that. It is a spiritual science, which essentially offers you an opportunity for a deepening, so that you may live a more fulfilled life of greater love, wisdom and purpose.
But not all is seen within the lines of chart or in books or in programs. Astrology can only be properly understood and interpreted by intuitive wisdom. And also by celestial awareness, and by looking at the real sky. Build your own relationship to the stars – see them with your own eyes, nurture that intimacy.
In my unique Celestial Natal Readings or the even more in-depth one the Natal Starry Sky Stories, I interpret your astrology by showing you how the sky actually looked like the moment you first opened your eyes on earth. I take you back to that moment, and share images of the planets and where they were exactly in the sky, which constellation and fixed stars they were together with, and all the stories and mysticisms. I love doing these readings, because I see how much they mean to my clients, how it allows them to connect deeper to themselves and their dharmic paths forward, how it nurtures their inner worlds and inspires them and reminds them of the beauty and wisdom they hold.
So today, I will guide you through a part of the sky called the Teapot asterism, and what it means if you have natal planets in this part of the sky. Whether or not the cosmic teapot touches your planets, natally or by transit, may this be enriching to you.
The Teapot Asterism
The Teapot asterism is one of our most beautiful asterisms in the sky that we can see with our naked eyes. It is part of the celestial Sagittarius constellation, which in the Tropical zodiac you will find around the 6-8th Tropical Capricorn degrees, bit it depends on each chart, so these are not fixed degrees. The Sagittarius constellation is a summer constellation, meaning that we see it rise in our summer nightly sky in the Northern Hemisphere, especially in August it is quite bright. Truth be told, this part of the sky has always been one of my favourites.
The Teapot asterism is essentially a pattern of stars within the Sagittarius constellation that form a distinct teapot shape. The body of the teapot includes Kaus Media and Kaus Australis, the handle is Nunki, the lid is Kaus Borealis and the spout is Alnasl. The teapot asterism is actually closest to the densest part of the Milky Way, so in our nightly skies, the rich beauty of the Milky Way rises above the spout like steam, pointing toward the galactic center.
Kaus means “bow”, so within the Sagittarius constellation, Kaus were the stars to point to where on the bow they were positioned. Kaus Borealis (borealis meaning rising high) shows the upper part of the bow, then the middle bow is Kaus Media, and the lower part of the bow pointing towards the south is Kaus Australis.
This is an example of what it may look like if you have planets in this part of the sky and had a celestial natal reading with me. In this example I’ve just turned on the constellation art for the purpose of better understanding and seeing which constellations I am speaking of. The teapot asterism, as you can see, is where the Kaus stars of the archer’s bow are.
In this example image above, the native has her natal Jupiter at the crown of the archer man, or the lid of the teapot, where Kaus Borealis is. Along with her other placements in her natal chart, this showed her soul mission in her life, her rising of being seen and recognized for her wisdom and higher knowledge, and spiritual evolution and ability to see and understand higher perspectives. Also, great visionary and out of the box thinker, and incredible talents and creative fires, which she expressed and shaped beautifully through her creative projects also.
She is also extremely intuitive and has strong connection and very clear connection to her crown and third eye – as you can see, her Jupiter, who also sits on her Navamsa ascendant, her soul chart, is right on top of the archer’s crown – this shows deep intuition and clear sight and insight, as well as pristine perception and discernment.
But it’s not just the adventurous quest for knowledge or perseverance that we find here, because the teapot offers us the warmth and balance that the warrior archers and truth seekers need. With planets here, it isn’t just drive, there is harmony, nurturing, comfort, and an offering of a space that makes people feel like home in your presence. There is a peacefulness and serenity that we can find here, and a sense of belonging, or making other people find their sense of home and belonging.
It also symbolizes that the need to create our inner peace and tranquility, and be mindful of being rash, impulsive or judgmental or prideful. There is also a Venusian undertone in this part of the sky, so there is lot for beauty and making things beautiful and romantic; sometimes perhaps feeling married to the quest for truth and higher knowledge, and a deep love and romance for travel and freedom.
In this part of the sky, as you can see in the first image, we also have M8 known as the Lagoon Nebula, which is a spectacular pinkish nebula, one of the most beautiful ones. This whole area actually surrounding the teapot is rich and abundant in many star clusters and nebulas, including also the Trifid nebula, the M22 globular cluster, the Barnard galaxy, and the Little Gem planetary nebula, which is seen as blue disk. The Little Gem nebula represents a “thin place” between the worlds, where the boundary between the material, everyday world and the spiritual, sacred realm feels thin, allowing for a deeper connection to the universe.
With all these star clusters and nebulas surrounding the teapot, which shows the cosmic nurseries where new stars are born, there is depth of abundance here, as well as spiritual evolution and creativity. This part of the sky also connects to people who can literally create things which make people feel like home, or nourish wisdom in people, or help guide others and expand their views. You can make people feel like home. And what we see is that the fires are balance with the groundedness, and the understanding that we need to nurture our inner peace and inner stability along our spiritual quests.
Here we are reminded to choose clarity without rigidity and choose clarity over drama; to choose warmth without fear frenzies, to choose steadiness without denial, and that we don’t need dramatic futures and predictions to feel human and alive or feel like life is meaningful or that we are meaningful. So much of our modern world has become about sensationalizing things, but this is just feeding fear and largely false anyway.
We have to learn to refuse to amplify fear by stabilizing our nervous system and being more discerning. There’s so much doom and gloom, and lack of ethics in spiritual fields, so many astrologers and psychics being obsessed with their spiritual egos and predictions, but that’s non sense. Ethics matters. So be mindful whom you listen to. Civilizations don’t survive because of predictions; they survive because enough people know how to stay human under pressure, hand in hand holding on holding strong, some waves are big, others small, but it’s about compassion, togetherness and rising through.
There is a love for feeling the wind in your hair; I’ve had many clients who are famous snowboarders and skydivers with their natal planets here, but this part of the sky also rules seas, ships and construction, so it’s also about fishermen, living by the sea, and working in design and construction, usually building beautiful places. I know an amazing man who literally builds and has a construction company, and he pours so much love into his work, and it’s so beautiful, he makes art not just houses, and literally builds people their home and spaces where they feel a sense of belonging. In his presence he makes them feel seen, understood and felt, in the way they need, and his hands then shape what they need.
Another client of mine has her Jupiter here, right at the top, the lid of the teapot, and Jupiter is also her darakaraka (the spouse her soul seeks in this life) and significant of her soul’s purpose and life’s path, so it is actually love that pulled her forward throughout her life – the seeking and knowing and the courage her passion gives her, that eventually led her to her soul’s purpose and doing what she loves. Immensely talented and wise, she helps so many people around the world. She pours love to them, and they often call her words soul soothing. Everyone feels loved when around her.
The whole teapot actually carries water energy and has long been connected to priests and priestesses. These are usually people who when the time comes, the spiritual world calls them and it’s like they are now ready to step into the wild unknown lands – the inner unique landscapes of ourselves – and begin their inner explorations and spiritual paths or mystic’s paths. They can sometimes feel really relaxed in quieter or remote places, monasteries also.
The body of the teapot stars are usually quite grounded but also very passionate, and the lid is very focused and has powerful energy, showing a rising in life. All stars in the teapot carry an energy of love for philosophy, distant cultures and travels, and can be very creative and talented and artistic, because there is a lot of Venusian energy here.
To me, this part of the sky will always be romantic. Mystical, deep, spiritual, soulful, expanding, poetic. Like the sea. Fires and waters merge in their ultimate intimate act.
Immaculate evenings. Laying on rooftops under the beautiful nightly skies, under the eyes of thousands of suns. Holding both freedom and intimacy. Immaculate in truth and purity, and what matters most in the church of our heart. Pristine clarity as nature water springs, as ancient clarity and as undimmed one, as wind chimes and as seeing into someone’s eyes. Vows made of water and fire. Unshakable faith. Heart things, love things, beyond time things.
What I love about this part of the sky is how it reminds us of our togetherness, because what this holds isn’t just the cosmic waters of union, it is also about supporting or contributing towards building something that supports the women and children and the more vulnerable people of societies, or supporting people’s unique creativity and creative self expressions.
This is also about sustaining what is truly valuable in life, sustaining life and nature and all people, and focusing our efforts towards building the real wealth in life – the one that no one can take away from us, such as our wisdom and knowledge and faith and creativity. Many people with these placements literally build things or structures or spaces which support others in their learning or nourishment or in some way, helping others to reach somewhere farther than before, whether physically, spiritually, intellectually or emotionally.
From whichever path or river of knowledge you enter this part the sky, whether Vedic or Western or just looking up, the essence is one: wisdom and unity. With the close intimacy to the wisdom of the Milky Way, here we are encouraged to tap into the universal wisdom and find the secret threads that unite us.
This is the wisdom. It is about the path towards unity and showing it to others, rather than perpetuating categorizations which essentially only lead to separations. I know there is a lot of division in our world, and a lot of instability, but may we remember the wisdom of this part of the sky, the gentle waters that guide us towards choosing unity and love rather than fear and separation. May we stay human and humane, may we be kinder to one another and find bridges not draw borders, and may we choose love, again and again, each day.
