~ you smell like moonlight on my skin ~
Today we’ll talk about a sweet and beautiful aspect in the composite chart, Venus trine Neptune. But first, what is a composite chart?
There is you, there is your partner, and then there is the relationship, the us – a land shaped as your energies merge together and what you may create upon it. Like any land, the relationship too has its own unique soil, needs, desires, cycles and seasons, stars and timings, and the potential for what may bloom and come into fruition.
Synastry, which literally means to “star together”, shows the dynamics between the couple, how they affect one another and how the energies blend and merge; it is the breeze that move them, the waves they move in, and their unique temperatures of skin to skin.
The composite chart is the chart of the relationship itself – it is the soil, the us. We go into its land to see the health and potential of the relationship long term, and the greater themes – the climates, the seasons, the landscapes the two may walk, and what may or may not be birthed on these lands or come into fruition. It also shows the path of the relationship overall, and you can see how it may be of benefit to each of the individual’s souls path in this life – especially if you seek alignments to their Navamsa charts (soul charts), or nodal axis.
While you can soothe some of the hard synastry aspects with mutual emotional maturity, compassion, patience and self awareness, you can’t really fundamentally change an unhealthy composite, which is why the composite chart is often seen as the outcome of a relationship; and it is important to analyze especially for couples interested in long term relationships and compatibility.
Composite Venus trine Neptune
Hard Neptune aspects such as the square, opposition and conjunction are never really good in neither synastry nor composites, as they give a veil of illusion, delusion and deception, and unfortunately carry a certain unique heartbreak that couples may go through. But when we have the softer aspects such as a trine and sextile, this gives the relationship just the right amount of Neptunian romance and dreaminess, and intuitive, creative and emotional understanding that the two people may share.
Venus trine Neptune in the composite chart is a beautiful energy that bestows an aura of love, sweetness, romanticism and spiritual connection in a couple’s life, and it essentially makes the soil fertile for a creative environment, full of love and pleasure, and the grounded-ness to last a long time. Especially if there is also a Mercury trine Neptune in the composite, this gives an even deeper intuitive understanding between the lovers.
For those couples who have had hard Neptune aspects in their synastry, seeing the trine in the composite shows that while they may have had to go through some disillusionment in their relationship, they have been able to lift the veils in harmonious ways and deepen into shared love, so the Neptunian issues that most people may struggle with will not fundamentally affect the relationship’s overall health, joy, fruition and longetivity.
The trine is a beautiful and helpful aspect to have in any relationship, because we all need a little bit of the refined sugar of Neptune – to infuse its sweetness into our daily life; when we’ve been together for many years, it is precisely our ability to be creative that can sustain and even save a relationship and keep us connected.
And for people who are naturally creative, artistic, sensitive, romantic, intuitive and empathic, and with a lot of water placements in their natal charts – this aspect would contribute towards the kind of relationship that would be fulfilling to them on a deeper emotional and spiritual level, and give them the intimacy and creativity flow that would be of natural sync to them.
Composite Venus trine Neptune is a relationship that may very well feel like a soulmate love between the two people, and in which they share a deep and compassionate relationship that is also very artistic, romantic and spiritual. The creative lands upon which they build their life offers them the deepening of love and to come up with creative solutions for any problems or obstacles they come up against; this is because creativity is needed for sustaining the fire of passion, inspiration, problem solving and romance. Especially for couple who have been married or together for a long time, it is precisely this sweet aspect that may always offer them unique and creative ways to appreciate one another and explore each other like art – looking into each other’s eyes like magic.
Most people associate Neptune being the ruler of Pisces, and yes, he is the exoteric ruler of Pisces, while Pluto is the esoteric ruler of Pisces. In esoteric astrology, Neptune is actually the esoteric ruler of Cancer, and is the higher octave of the Moon. So on a soul level – Neptune rules Cancer and the lunar energies of the seas merge with the deep oceans, to become an even greater deeper love and soul connection. On his higher manifestation or expression of energy, Neptune is about unconditional love, deep compassion, the yearning for the cosmic womb, and it is the heart of the spiritual Sun and the Christ consciousness of love.
Venus is the purest expression and channel for love in her higher manifestation, and when you blend these two energies together in a trine – which is essentially a perfect flow of harmony and love – we see an aspect that bestows spiritual depth, emotional depth, intuitive understanding and a love union.
There is a great deal of artistic and creative energy flowing through here as well – and love itself is art, loving is art, everything in life is art. What we do is art, how we move and walk, how we dress and what our lips speak is art. The food we make is art. How we design our home, how our handwriting looks like. The way we smile is art, how we love is art, how we drink our tea, how we approach another person. How we feel is art also.
Through our eyes of romance, which is essentially the ability to see the extraordinary in the ordinary and to turn each small gesture into meaning, and to see the beauty along the circling staircases of our life – we help one another create pleasure in our relationship, and are more attention to one another. This is what keeps fires burning in long term relationships; and it isn’t destructive fires, unhealthy and controlling dynamics and drama like hard Pluto aspects, it isn’t delusion, illusion, addiction and deception with hard Neptune aspects – this trine creates the right amount of fires burning deep and nurturing us.
Many couples with this aspect are actually quite artistic together, and most importantly, they support each other’s creativity and hobbies and take part together in mutual pleasure and creation. They make art together, because they make love of everything. They inspire each other’s dreams, nurture their creativity and this deepens their spiritual connection.
The sweetness, compassion and giving nature of this aspect may actually be the gentle hands that may smooth any hard edges or conflict between the couple; and as a client of mine once shared “it’s what stopped us from scratching our faces off when we’d argue about even something as small as washing the dishes”.
This aspect also shows that each partner can be more able and willing to find compassion in the other and give compassion to the other, to find a sense of solace and home, and to mutually feel seen and understood. They also have the ability to keep the romance going after many years, and keep courting each other – which is of course important for any relationship.
Often times the couple is literally very artistic, whether they are poets, musicians, film makers – or even if only one is, the other joins. For example, I had clients with this aspect where one of them played the guitar and his wife would gather support for him, loved dancing to his music and she was his biggest cheerleader! Even though she never danced or was into music, he inspired her and they began sharing the pleasure of this. So with this aspect it isn’t just us sinpiring each other into dreams, we actually do the action and show up for one another.
This aspect brings forth a sense of harmony, empathy and sensitivity between the two partners; and their love is usually founded on emotional support, as well as profound understanding and appreciation of each other’s dreams, desires and creative expressions. There is a wonder and beauty in the way they approach the relationship and their magic word “us”, and this connection enhances their ability to connect deeply on a soul level.
There is a dissolution of the boundaries that happens, and whatever may have bothered them in other people, suddenly becomes an inspiration – and there is also an appreciation for who they are, because they can sometimes see each other like muses. They can stay in their sweet love and loving in their sensitive private emotional cocoons, and it can be quite dreamy and uniting.
This connection inspires both of them to explore their emotional connection and to embrace the spiritual essence of their love. They flow in unison, and this relationship can be very supportive of their spiritual pursuits; it serves to open them more deeply to the beauty of life and nature, and they may enjoy a lot of romance out in nature also and have many mystical and spiritual moments there while embracing in their togetherness.
