This essay is an excerpt from my book on fixed stars and nakshatras, Of Soils and Stars, Volume I, which you may order and learn about here.
As the white magnolia trees are beautifully beginning to blossom, Uranus is moving through the star cluster of the Pleiades, entering the witnessing eye of Aldebaran. As such, we move into a landscape of humanity, a movement where our actions matter, how we hold and live in balance matters, how we witness others, how we support, raise each other and lift each other up matters. Because of that movement, is what will come to fruition.
In my practice as a spiritual astrologer and guide, I don’t view the sky as detached star gazing, nor do I interpret single aspects or stars as absolutes– I look at it as a living story, holding all around it, below it and above it, as part of a path where we may use this celestial knowledge to create harmony, beauty and balance in our daily life.
All within you is part of a story – a living story, ever moving and evolving. Every aspect, every planet, every star is not merely a natal chart to be interpreted in few sentences as absolutes – it is all held within and of each other, and in this way has a purpose and creates your way of life. The South Node too isn’t a thing to separate or detach from, it is a body holding deep memories for you, and may often bring you calmness and comfort; it holds treasures for you on your path as you look towards the horizons of your North Node consciousness evolution. Absolutism sinks us in the water like stones, and if one truly seeks to understand, one needs to intentionally dedicate themselves to deeper self knowledge.
I understand that people in our modern world seek few-sentence answers to their lives, but that’s not how life works. Astrology isn’t about horoscopes or likes or followers on social media because it’s not a circus for entertainment; it is a spiritual study, and essentially, about alignment and guidance for your dhamic path, so that you can live the life you intended and fulfilling your soul’s purpose. Each person is unique, each path is unique, and your life is a garden of flowers, cycles and seasons, various temperatures and landscapes, nuances, and stories within stories; stories of trust, stories of adventure, stories of love.
The right way to understand stars is not just as stand alone points in the sky nor charts, but through their landscapes – what they hold, see, carry and live within and around themselves. Because it’s a story, an evolution, a movement.
Today I wanted to share with you something quite beautiful that the eye of bull, Aldebaran, sees and holds in the landscapes within its body and around itself. I’ve spoken in depth before about fixed star Aldebaran and what it means in a person’s chart, but just as a reminder, we find this star currently around the ninth degree of Tropical Gemini.
The royal stars, such as Aldebaran, Antares, Regulus and Fomalhaut, aren’t royal just because they are powerful guardians, connected to archangels, and beginners of paths – they are royal because they are witnesses, and seek us to elevate ourselves to reach their royalty.
There is a living sky story here Aldebaran, as with all stars, that seeks us to understand not a star as the warrior, hero or “what this star can give me in my natal chart”, but rather a story of humanity. The right question becomes “how am I living in balance or imbalance with the whole around me?”
Aldebaran at its core is about integrity, a moral compass, and clarity with compassion. But the intention remains always – to make the world a place of more harmony and balance. Each royal star carries power, but with power comes responsibility, so it is said that to be blessed by its power, one needs to first earn it by moving through a kind of a test. For each royal star it is different, and for Aldebaran it is usually tests on honour, integrity and morality. Life may bring these natives situations in which their integrity will be tested, but if they remain loyal and aligned to higher virtue, no matter the circumstance, the blessings will adorn them.
Into the living landscapes of Aldebaran
When we enter than landscapes of Aldebaran – and what his body holds and what his eyes see, what we find west of him are the two star clusters: the Pleiades and Hyades. And in front of the bull is Orion.
The Pleiades are like star sisters, holding each other and teaching us about the seeds of renewal, sacred timing and cycles in life, and the right relationship. The Hyades too are like sisters, though often known as the weeping ones, because they hold the tears, emotional truths and carrying the ancestral memories; here from their lands we see rain, moisture, the moist soil, which essentially sustains life. And Orion – he is the hunter, the seeker, the one who may learn self discipline and restraint.
In this way, Aldebaran becomes the witness of integrity and wisdom holder of that which creates balance – wisdom in the balance of seeing clearly, feeling deeply, acting responsibly, and living in harmony.
Aldebaran isn’t the leader in a hierarchy – it is an invitation to become the story itself, and reflect on not what this star gives you in your natal chart, but how you may participate in balance within the whole around you.
Natives who are touched by Aldebaran in its highest expression aren’t leaders and path pavers because they exercised truth with swords – they are leaders because they walk the real path of this star’s integrity. Aldebaran shows a way of living – a living of awareness of all around you, an ability to perceive truth and act accordingly, while still being able to witness all waves and nuances of life itself, and humanity, through the cycles and seasons.
The eye of the bull asks us: Can we see clearly without distortion? Can we act with courage without aggression? Its deeper teaching is that true protection arises from our inner alignment.
The Hyades remind us that Aldebaran’s clarity must be held within compassion. Without feeling, truth becomes ice. And without truth, feelings are lost. The Hyades sisters in the face of the bull are the tears that sometimes fall down our cheeks, and sometimes it is also the rains that nourish the soils; they are rain nymphs, who know love, know the depth of emotions of humanity, holds the tears of humanity and holds ancestral memories.
The Pleiades shimmer nearby as the cluster of blue stars – they are at the heart of the bull, or some say at its shoulder, but nonetheless, they are moving him into action, moving him through life, with the right touch and grace. They are the sisters of new seeds, fertile soils, the present holding the future. They remind of the right relationship with all and within us, of the sacred timing and cycles of land; and being in the heart of the bull, which too guides the eye, we come into the greater teaching that wisdom isn’t just seeing truth, it is about living it in the right relationship with others in our life.
And then there’s Orion – the eye of bull looks at this great hunter. Here our actions are watched, our ambition cannot come at the ruin of others. The fire burns in our hearts, just as the eye of the bull is red passion also, but here Aldebaran tells us: raw will must come with moral compass.
Aldebaran speaks truth with humility, holds strength with tenderness also. Saint Michael didn’t only slay dragons to protect and illuminate truth, he also held people in loving ways, through their tears and memories. Vision without compassion is useless; drive without harmony is useless; and tears, and water, they nourish the lands and refresh our own rivers. Without moisture nothing grows, just like without emotional honesty nothing can endure.
In this part of the sky there is a witnessing of how we create and nourish our relationships, and how we live in harmony and balance with the whole. Aldebaran is a bright marker within the field of sisters, and with a clear vision, it sees the greater patterns. In spring all blooms. We have a flower harvest. Children play together, elders share their wisdom, parents hold lovingly. We all participate together and with each other, knowing that within one is all. A movement of continuity is here in the lands of Aldebaran, and we, within it, witnessed and witnessing.
