“in the you of you is the me of me is us
of us is love”

~ The God-like Things by Lubomira Kourteva

In my article Secrets of the Darakaraka, I guided you through how our darakaraka is the significator of the one our soul seeks as our partner in this life, and today we’ll dive deeper into the oceans of love for some further insight on this special placement for our soul’s evolution.

To recap briefly, our darakaraka is the planet of our natal chart holding the lowest degrees; dara means spouse and karaka means significator or to create. Essentially our darakaraka shows the partner our soul seeks in this life, as well as the kind of qualities we desire to develop within ourself or what we need to integrate for our inner sacred marriage on our path to soul evolution.

We can only meet another as deeply as we’ve met ourselves, and as the darakaraka holds the lowest degree in our natal chart, it shows what we desire on a soul level to inspire by, learn from and embody. This placement intimately connects to both our South Node (Ketu) and North Node (Rahu), as these are the axis of the path of our consciousness, connecting both the lineage of soul and our desire and hands for what we’ve here to shape and form; and it also relates to our Ascendant-Descendant axis, as this is the axis of our body moving forward through desire towards the otherness we seek.

Our darakaraka is a beautiful complement to our atmakaraka, and they connect on a soul level, which is why in synastry readings we often look at their inter-connections between two people for how or if at all, they connect to each other emotionally and spiritually. It is also important to analyze these placements in the Navamsa chart, also known as the soul chart or dharma chart.

We often find that in charts of soulmates or long term healthy relationships of physical, emotional and spiritual compatibility and support, that the partners share links between their atma and dara karakas. For example, your darakaraka may play an important role in the chart of your beloved, and your atmakaraka may connect to his darakaraka etc.

What’s even more interesting and mystical is that we often find that the darakaraka relates deeply to the Navamsa chart and the evolution of our atmakaraka, which shows the importance of our beloved for our dharmic path; and how the qualities we develop through our intimate partners and all of our relationships in life are those we precisely need for soul growth and life’s work.

In Secrets of the Darakaraka, we looked at some of the planets and what they’d mean if they were your darakaraka, and today we’ll take it deeper into looking at the nakshatra within which it resides. A nakshatra is essentially what we may understand as a constellation, or more technically, it is written as lunar mansion within which a planet resides. The lunar mansion within which resides the partner your soul seeks gives us insight on their potential personality as well as the kind of qualities you seek to also develop within yourself on a soul level.

Our relationships in life are most important as they teach us spiritual lessons and as this life is a life of interconnection and interdependence, everything in life is a relationship; but it is specifically through our relationships with other people that we deepen in understanding and self knowledge and grow on a soul level.

Darakaraka in Purva Ashada Nakshatra

Suppose the one your soul seeks resides in the lunar mansion Purva Ashada.

Purva Ashada resides wholebodily within the heart of the Sagittarius constellation, and it is ruled by Venus. Firstly, this may show that your partner may have strong Sagittarius or Jupiter placements, or strong Venus in their chart, or their path of life shown through either their Ascendant, atmakaraka or North Node would be with the energy of Purva Ashada.

The beautiful marriage between Venus and Jupiter in this lunar mansion shows that your spouse may be very diplomatic, intelligent, and inspiring to you through their wisdom, balance of self and way they move through the world. The spouse your soul seeks is someone who will expand your world in some shape or form, whether physically and literally travelling or being of foreign culture to you, or making you feel abundant and expansive through building a family and having children, or expandin your network and wealth, or expanding your understanding and world view – whatever and however this expansion takes place, it will serve to open up horizons and dreams and inspirations.

The influence of Venusian energy shows that your spouse will be loving, generous, harmonious and treasure beautiful things and have beautiful romantic speech; and something in your life will become more balanced or smooth or softened by their entering in your life and marriage. It also shows your spouse may be very attracted to you and deeply connected to you, and they too feel inspired by you and your wisdom and perspectives.

The Jupiterean nature of this nakshatra shows a lunar mansion of your union which will infused by loyalty, trust and integrity. Your spouse may have strong understanding or ideas of justice, and be in fields related to law or finance or hold high positions and status, or where balance, discernment, high intelligence and clarity of mind are needed. Fairness and truth are important for your spouse, and for you too these were traits you may have always been seeking in others and in yourself.

Walking a path of authenticity may be what becomes the meeting place between you, because your spouse does not tolerate falseness and they value unique creative self expression as well as high moral standards. Honesty, loyalty and trust are what binds you.

Within this lunar mansion are the talents of the written word and communication skills; so your spouse may be a gifted writer, communicator or they may even love writing you love letters. Writing is high initiate skill that is usually developed through many lives, and this Jupiterean energy carries the wisdom and dharmic path this soul has taken and still chooses to take each day.

Another way you may meet is precisely through the written word, or perhaps your destined spouse finds you through something you’ve written and published online. When the energy of Jupiter and Venus meet in a lover’s lunar mansion – it shows the beautiful emotional and spiritual coccoon that a soul feels comfortable in, with the veils pulled on the window, and staying in creating and learning and developing its wisdom. So while both you and your destined spouse may have this introspective nature, and value deeply your privacy, as the saying goes: soulmates meet always because they have the same hiding places. That place, perhaps for both of you, has been the written word, or travelling to distant lands. Travelling will be key in your marriage and relationship also.

The symbol of Purva Ashada is the elephant tusk, showing strength, courage of soul and financial wealth, as well as spiritual rewards from walking a dharmic path. This nakshatra loves a certain sense of luxury, with both Jupiter and Venus here, and it takes pleasure in beauty and the aesthetics of all. If well aspected in your chart, this darakaraka nakshatra can bring you a spouse with wealth who will look after you; though of course, what binds you will be your spiritual and emotional connection. But nonetheless, the financial abundance will assure that you are able to keep exploring the world through both personal travel and creating a larger impact and contribution to humanity. This is because both of you have humanitarian natures desiring to contribute and follow the dharmic paths.

The meaning of Purva Ashada is “the invincible one”, so this shows the strength of character and spirit of your partner; and that you too are inspired by that and have walked a path where you had to develop these traits of character by paving your own way of authenticity and courage to be your self, aligned to higher values and integrity. Yours was a path of endurance, perseverance and courage of spirit.

This invincibility embraces your intimacy as well, because when two people vow to truth and trust and true love, the bond becomes unbreakable; and when soul meets soul on the human lips by kiss, two worlds merge and such spiritual marriages go beyond the human skins. Such vows are from time beyond time before time. Within the heart of the Sagittarius constellation we see the part of the sky where the Milky Way is the densest – so from the oceans of consciousness, you always find each other, guiding by the higher wisdom of the awakened heart.

You can also analyze your darakaraka placement in your Navamsa chart to see how your union supports your soul growth and evolution; and if placed in let’s say the Navamsa Ascendant, then it shows your spouse will be very supportive of you and probably play a key role in your life’s work and purpose, which is your soul’s calling.

The higher manifestations of this placement are developing balance and diplomacy, integrity, spirituality, discernment and clarity of mind, communication skills and the written word, fairness and the virtues, generosity, and being far sighted.

Natives with this nakshatra are very independent and self reliant and they don’t like others telling them what to do, and they certainly don’t like criticism nor unasked opinions; they also don’t respect falseness and have no tolerance for someone stepping over their boundaries, so their boundaries need to be respected and honoured. They aim to walk the highest path and usually don’t have much tolerance for shallow connections nor immature behaviours. The Jupiterean nature usually moves them towards spiritual inclinations, so that too may be your meeting place.
