Have you witnessed water actually begin?
Sometimes perhaps when we turn on the faucet, or when a pipe bursts unexpectedly.
Or when in the middle of the high hot sun afternoon, we accidentally trip over a stone in the backyard; and when we then move the stone, clean water springs from the earth we once thought dry. Pure, true. It’s perfect. And it’s as if we’ve opened the desert.
It’s no ordinary magic – seeing the leading edge from which things flow to fill us.
It’s wild things, natural things. Secrets that remain perfect because they are beyond human. And when we open such doorways, we fall into these secret wisdoms that spring in pristine clarity. It all becomes the ultimate intimate act. And we search for these secrets that fill us, we seek them, we long for them.
Vapour, snow, river, rainlife, water is water. Many shapes and forms of it, different speeds and movements. It’s up to us to recognize it, see it and understand it. See the essence of it, and learn to recognize and perceive the inner things, the things that make it as it is, not just be moved by its external shape.
So today, let’s explore the beautiful lunar mansion of waters, beauty and spiritual wisdom, Purva Ashadha, whose deity is Apas, goddesses of waters. If you’ve had celestial natal readings with me, and you’ve had planets in this mansion, you’d find them along the celestial archer’s crown and the height of his bow, and sometimes even along his mystical cloak.
If you follow the Sidereal zodiac, Purva Ashadha would be found somewhere around the 13th to 26th degree of Sidereal Sagittarius, depending on which ayanamsha you are using. In the Tropical zodiac, this is found from around 7th to 20th Tropical zodiac, and time wise, we see it begin around the 29th of December to around the 10th of January.
So this lunar mansion is one we enter during quite a magical time of year actually, because it begins around new year’s eve. In many Indigenous beliefs and folklore, from all over the world, this eve is known to carry powerful energy opening the doors to two worlds to meet and touch.
There are tales about it also, such as the Twelve Months tale, which is an Eastern European tale, speaking of the magic of this night and worlds opening to the mystical; and there are also many Indigenous tribes from Siberian regions, which have traditions on this night, to spend together as a family, laugh and tell stories, and even leave little treats outside for the animals.
People usually have quite interesting dreams or see beautiful omens, and there is indeed a shift in energy. Nature speaks on this eve. Animals too. If you know how to listen, how to see, beauty reveals itself, always.
As I mentioned above, in our sky, Purva Ashadha is found within the celestial archer constellation, along the height of his bow and also on his crown and sometimes along his cloak, and holds the fixed stars δ “Kaus Media” and ε “Kaus Australis” of the Sagittarius constellation. These two stars, which are part of the archer’s bow, are closest to the densest part of the Milky Way, thereby symbolizing depth of spiritual knowledge and wisdom, free minds, and the profound ability for insight that may bring humanity into oneness.
Often known as the high priest or priestess, possessing deep spiritual wisdom as well as a love and knowledge for philosophy and long distance travels, natives with significant planets in this part of the sky have an aura of magnetism, wisdom and influence.
Purva Ashadha means the invincible one, symbolizing also victory and being undefeated, and it is a Venus ruled nakshatra, though it carries the energy of both Venus and Jupiter as influence. Its ruling deity is Apas, the gods of waters.
As a Venus ruled nakshatra, it is also Lakshmi ruled, and here we find the real wealth in life – which is the kind of wealth that will never be taken away from us. Wisdom, knowledge. This is the real wealth, the Lakshmi wealth, the Venus wealth. It’s the wealth we attain which no one can ever take away from us, and which is carried over with us through time and through lives. Wisdom, spiritual growth and evolution, purification, all these remain with us and we carry them forth.
This is a part of the sky which deals with unshakeable faith, spiritual development, and it shows the clean waters that purify us into our true essence, authenticity and truth. There’s a lot of courage here also, and freedom and free mindedness – and the reason there’s courage is because freedom cannot exist with fear. Freedom means we’ve dissolved fear within us, and have released ourselves of whatever binds us from seeing or feeling the truth.
Here is the ability to see the essence of things, and not bind yourself to limiting old beliefs and dogmas – because here you hold a higher perspective of things: you sit at the crown of the archer, and at the height of his bow, looking directly into the Milky Way and higher consciousness. And you point the arrow of intention towards breaking away illusions, deceptions and whatever else divides and separates rather than serve for wisdom towards uniting. You see, when people actually understand the essence of something, they understand the truth of it, and are no longer susceptible to being manipulated by close minded or old limiting definitions.
This part of the sky, known for its height, isn’t just symbolic heights, it is also literally sometimes also. One of the symbols of Purva Ashadha is roofs and rooftops. One of my clients has her Jupiter here, who is also her darakaraka, and she’s always loved roofs, and loves having date nights on rooftops, where they watch the stars!
Many of my other clients with Purva Ashadha share a love for heights, whether it is literally roofs or living in high rises, or are into hiking, rock climbing, or extreme sports with parachutes etc. Another client of mine with his Sun here has been all around the world doing extreme sports and always including mountains or heights – from his snowboarding champioships, to being famous as a skydiver, and always traveling for the next high thing to skydive from!
Purva Ashadha natives need to feel the winds in their hair, symbolizing as well their need for independence and keeping their mind free, and they need to feel like they are climbing stairs towards the roof – to see the higher truth and higher perspective of something. There’s a fire within the earth that pulls them upward.
Natives with planets in this part of the sky are also quite tender hearted, creative and graceful because of the Venus influence, and love being near water or living by the sea. I’ve seen many sailors, navigators and fishermen here also, and a love for aquatic animals, flowers and swimming, and even people who deal with seaweed beauty products. I’ve also seen quite a few amazing people who work in construction, making beautiful interiors and exteriors, and mainly, Purva Ashadha actually deals with bridges – because here in this part of the sky is a celestial bridge taking us to something pure and true.
If I were to speak of the dharma of this part of the sky, I’d say it is about bathing in the waters of truth, because battles are won by purity not pride. When we speak of purity, or chastity, we are essentially speaking about truth – remaining true to yourself and your inner truth, your values and spiritual core.
So the inner purification process, which is key to spiritual evolution, always begins with the inner cleansing, so the truth reveals itself and peels the old layers off of you, the old beliefs, the limiting beliefs, the false masks and identities, and as you peel the layers off, your true fragrance releases, your true inner self.
Purva Ashadha is ruled by the waters, Apas, the goddesses of waters. And here it’s not just physical waters that we find, with the love of sea and living near the beach, but it is the life giving waters of consciousness and creation. It is associated with nourishment, spiritual growth, and essentially, embodying our spiritual essence, emotions, and the interconnectedness of all things, symbolizing the vast ocean of cosmic consciousness.
Apas represent feelings, devotion, faith, and the collective emotional state, connecting us all as living beings to the universal consciousness. In essence, Apas are the profound, fluid essence of what holds us as people, bodies as marriage between flesh and heaven, embodying creation, consciousness, and spiritual flow.
This part of the sky is actually very fortunate, and blesses our efforts in life. Just like our energy is restored and we gain vitality through bathing in water, our efforts too in life will be supported by the waters of this sky. What matters though, is to stay true to yourself and act with integrity, honour and courage. You are here to pave your own way and stay true to higher values and higher spiritual principles. The blind spots here can be pride, judgment and ego or self righteousness. Stay humble and keep learning.
Purva Ashadha connects us with the ocean and the ability to cross the sea, and this is not just physically as travel or settling abroad across the sea or ocean, but it is also symbolically, crossing over illusions or reaching something you thought you previously couldn’t.
There’s high philosophy and spiritual seeking in this part of the sky, and there’s actually also a lot of desire and longing. A desire for the open seas, the horizons, the untouched and the distant, and for perhaps even keeping some threads open. Often it can show a deeply sensory experience, or experiential learning or attaining of wisdom, rather than purely intellectual, so we do see a lot of love for physical travel. A taste for the new and unknown. While also simultaneously a longing for the known, and for the roots that hold us, the folklore, the soil and ancient water wells.
Immaculate evenings. The way you share a night on the rooftop with your loved one, looking at the stars. Romancing both freedom and intimacy. Quiet intimate spaces, where you see the world and all stars and lights in houses, while it’s as if you are in your own little lover’s cocoon. Immaculate hallways, the way the reddish light from the sun set, like a sky of fires, touches the wooden floors. Immaculate in truth. Pristine clarity as nature water springs. Vows made of water and fire. Unshakable faith. Heart things, love things, beyond time things.
What I love about this part of the sky is how it reminds us of our togetherness, because what this holds isn’t just the cosmic waters of union, it is also its dharmic path related to the sacred feminine and aligning to the circle of the grandmothers. It is about supporting or contributing towards building something that supports the women and children and the more vulnerable people of societies, or supporting people’s unique creativity and creative self expressions.
This is also about sustaining what is truly valuable in life, sustaining life and nature and all people, and focusing our efforts towards building the real wealth in life – the one that no one can take away from us, such as our wisdom and knowledge and faith and creativity. Many people with these placements literally build things or structures or spaces which support others in their learning or nourishment or in some way, helping others to reach somewhere farther than before, whether physically, spiritually, intellectually or emotionally.
