Last time in Introduction to Fixed Stars in Astrology, I guided you through the Behenian stars, and today let’s dive deeper into the spiritual landscapes of Sirius, and what she may mean for you when you have her prominent in your natal chart.
Sirius is the brightest fixed star in our night sky, outshined only by the wandering lights of Venus and our Moon. In the Tropical zodiac, Sirius is currently found at around the 14º degree of Cancer. In our sky, she is part of the constellation Canis Major, or the Major Dog, which is why she is often called the Dog Star. Within the celestial story, the dog faithfully followed the hunter Orion on his quests. Appearing near Sirius, as part of the constellation Canis Major, we find the open star cluster Messier 41 or M41, also known as the Little Beehive Cluster, holding around hundred stars.
Sirius of the nature of Venus and Jupiter, and this is a highly benevolent energy of universal love and wisdom that she carries. You may understand it in a similar way to the conjunction of Venus and Jupiter, which happens sometimes once of year, though not all years, and this bright conjunction is often known as the Bethlehem star, inspiring us into deeper universal love and wisdom.
While people call Sirius a dog star, I’ve never seen it associated with the actual dog animals, but rather, she shows us the deep connection between wildlife and humanity. She is a celestial bridge connecting us to the interconnection of all, between animal and human, between soul and skin, connecting soul to nature.
Sirius has a deep love for all animals, and she shares a special deep connection to wolves. For the Indigenous people Ojibwe and the Anishinaabe cosmology, the Canis Major constellation is called Ma’iingan Anang, which in English translates to Wolf Star; and the ecliptic trail itself is called a Wolf trail. There are beautiful stories about this part of the sky, which I invite you learn on your own.
I’ve seen many of my Sirius clients through the years hold a connection to the wolf in one way or another. I too have Sirius prominent in my chart; my grandfather’s name was literally Wolf, and my surname too comes from an old word meaning wolf.
Sirius natives with the beautiful wolf energy surrounding them, have a keen sense of smell, and can smell people’s intentions from far away sometimes. They are quite sensual people, and have a deep soul need to have some freedom and be in nature, or in the wild; while also then coming home to their loved ones, and cuddling up. It’s a blend between two worlds within them, and loyalty defines them. Truly, they can be very deeply loyal people, treasuring their family as a sacred thing. Instinctual and intuitive, they love deeply, carry wilderness within their souls, and are very connected to the Moon and night time.
Many natives who have Sirius prominent in their natal charts have a deep connection to animals, and a deep love to help all creatures, no matter how big or small. There is almost an intuitive way of understanding languages which not all may understand; even if the little rabbit doesn’t speak in words like ours, we may listen and witness and observe, and may in such a way build a bridge and understand.
There is an openness and willingness to reach our hands across the lines that separate as, and seek to understand languages and movements and ideas and thoughts that may ask of us more attention and presence to be heard. Many natives of this beautiful love Star have humanitarian hearts, and feel called and a greater purpose to help the more vulnerable ones, and contribute in meaningful ways towards building more love in our world. Within the energy of star is a humanitarian heart, seeking to create a sense of belonging for all, animal and people, and usually these natives are very nurturing and family oriented.

Sirius carries within her energy a path of returning – returning to what matters to us most deeply, connection to past lives and loves we’ve experienced, and a sense of renewal of spirit. She moves like a love returning us to love.
On a more practical or physical manifestation, some Sirius natives actually really love their pillows, and may even wish to carry their pillows when they travel somewhere. It’s actually really important to have a good night sleep, and have a comfortable sleeping space, mattress and pillows and bedsheets.
Sirius gives powerful intuition and dreams, both vivid and perhaps lucid dreams also. And she also gives a powerful intuitive pull towards places that may feel like a home from a past life. This is because Sirius connected to memory, but a memory not of fact or logic – she is a soul memory. A soul memory like mystical whispers from a time before time beyond time.
Many natives with prominent Sirius may often feel like they have dreams of places or cities or countries they can’t really pinpoint, yet they may see them very visibly and vivid and even colourful in their dreams. Those who already have strong intuition or developed their clair senses further, may literally see, and very clearly, specific houses, the interiors of these homes and even the street names and numbers, which they may check when they wake up – and indeed, these places exist.
You can even work with these dreams in ways of self reflection and an opportunity for a deepening:
Do you have any dreams of places that you can’t pinpoint?
If yes, what do these places feel like or look like? Are they tropical, cold, warm, lush, rocky, mystical deserts? How would you describe them?
When you dream, what is happening; how are you feeling, how are you moving through the dream, what do you follow, what appears? Is the dream recurring? What do you see?
Is there one place you go to, even if you don’t know it in real life? How does it look like, how do you feel there?
Do you feel a closeness to a place within a dream, does it feel familiar? Does it feel like home? Or do you feel a sense of detachment?
You may find that throughout your life when you travel somewhere, in some places or cities you may feel a deep soul connection, like you’ve lived there before, like you’ve loved there before, like you’ve walked these streets and created emotions and dreams there. And perhaps indeed you did.

Being of the nature of both Venus and Jupiter, she is a highly benevolent star, blessing the charts of all those who have her conjunct their inner planets especially the Moon, Venus, Sun or Ascendant ruler. Sirius carries the energy of Ray 2 of love and universal wisdom, flowing through the heart of the Sun and through all the planets and constellations. Along with love, wisdom and freedom, Sirius transmits universal mind and divine Intelligence into our human minds.
In ancient Egypt Sirius was believed to have heralded the flooding of the Nile, which is why she marked the beginning of their calendar year. She is a beginning.
She is sacred. She is of pure spirit. In ancient times, a Sirius talisman would “bestoweth honour and good will, and the favor of men, and aerial spirits, and giveth the power to pacify and reconcile kings, princes, and other men”.
Being the brightest star in our sky and of pure spirit and celestial wisdom, we look towards her for guidance on our higher purpose and to help us navigate the twists and turns of life with the wisdom and discernment of our awakened hearts. As all other Behenians, she invites us to build strength in our spiritual core, know thyself and align to higher values and virtue, so that we are vessels for the divine and inspired creativity to flow through us.
There is faithfulness and loyalty to her, but not blind faith – she has faith and deep devotion to only that which is true, and always, she is true and loyal to her heart and higher path. Devotion is the veil through which awareness shows its beautiful face, and Sirius will always shine a light on your devotional paths.
Sailors would navigate the big waves and dark nights looking towards her, princes and princesses would carry her as talisman near their hearts, and all of us perhaps have seen her in the sky without even knowing her name – but there she was, a light, a bright light, looking at us even when we weren’t looking at her.
She isn’t a stranger to darkness and she knows all realms, all perspectives, all worlds, she’s walked through obstacles and hardships, but stays loyal to love; and she holds it all into her one body.
One star, one body, one light – within her existing the nuances of the human experience, a moonhold, holding the waning within her waxing and all within herself no matter whether you know it or not you are always held.
Sirius burns bright in our sky to remind us that life is meaningful, that our everyday actions are sacred, that light will burn out as life will end as wax feeds on its flame but being alive matters and each moment matters. Existence matters, our life matters and there is another kind of light, soul like, not just seen with human eyes, that will shine eternally thereafter and light the paths of all other wanderers.
Sirius energy can feel like a deeply embodied love and sensual energy, because the consciousness of this star or the people who have her prominent in their charts are very good at getting you too into your body.
What do you truly want versus what do you wish to turn away from? What do you feel in your body, what desire and needs move you; what do you need to feel good in your body and connected to your senses? How do you experiences yourself through the five senses? How do you connect to your sensual self and awaken yourself into more presence?
Many people who are around Sirius natives feel deeply connected to their body in a way they haven’t felt around anyone else, and feel more connected to their body as a sensual being.
Being at the Tropical 14th degree of Cancer, she holds the mystical intuitive energy of the Moon, as well as the Venusian Taurus degree, which beautifully blends the worlds of senses and feelings, of intuition and physical embodiment.
The path of Cancer is a feminine pathway of spirituality, which means this energy invites the natives to immerse themselves completely with the senses and this world, and bring spirit into matter.
The purpose of the feminine pathway and how they connect and deepen their spiritual connection is through embodiment. While the masculine reaches the divine through transcendence, i.e. beyond form, the feminine finds the divine within form. The masculine seeks to master the mind, while the feminine desires to free the heart. The masculine holds space in stillness, while the feminine expands through movement.
As part of the feminine spiritual pathway, Sirius is already a very spiritual energy, carrying constellations and worlds of wisdom within her, and so she desires to now bring spirit into physical matter. She is here to dance, to be the dancer, to master the beauty of the dance. She is here to engage herself fully and experience herself through the senses, the body and relationships.
Sirius natives, especially those with conjunctions to their ascendant ruler, Venus or Moon, are very generous souls, with warm hearts, and a deep love for wildlife, animals, humanity, and seeking to create a sense of beloging for all people. Their warm touch and loving words often make all people around them feel good about themselves and fall into deeper self compassion.
Animals may feel naturally drawn to Sirius natives, and with helping hands and warm hearts these natives will never be too tall not to kneel to help a little creature. These natives may also hold deep connection to spirit animals, totem animals and Indigenous and ancestral wisdom. They may often be like a bridge between two worlds, being able to perceive the truths beyond the veils, and stay rooted and aligned to the higher universal wisdom.
Sirius also blesses them with the nature of Jupiter – the higher wisdom and spiritual pursuits, philosophy and esotericism, mysticism and higher learning. They are also usually quite gifted in writing, and if they choose to develop this gift, may become amazing writers. Their words may touch people’s hearts and inspire them to be more loving and kinder people. Their words may be soul soothing, as their hands too may carry healing energy.
They can make great mystics, teachers, astrologers, poets, and their ability to see beauty in all may often inspire others to awaken their own inner goodness and beauty. Beauty has a spiritual purpose: it softens us, opens our hearts and minds, and softens our hands and we open our palms. Compassion too softens us, disarms us, and it inspires us also to be better people, more humane, more loving, more kind. Just like Sirius shines brightest in our sky, we too, when we have a star, a higher principle to follow, it will always guide us. Let that star be love. Follow the love.
The beautiful featured photography with the animals is by photographer Martin Stranka; his official website is here. He is known for his dream like style, his deep love and connection to nature, and photography of rescued wild animals. What I loved about his photography when I first saw it many years ago was also the beautiful stories of the rescued animals he was photographing. For many years he’d meet people who saved wild animals, and was inspired by the devotion towards this cause, and the love and shelter and caring the rescuers were giving to the animals. You may read an interview with Martin Stranka here, where he shares about his work, inspiration and some of the stories about the animals.
