Last time in The Dharma of Each Nakshatra  I shared with you about the spiritual evolution and dharma of each nakshatra and the importance of its understanding in order to step into our higher path of life. I discussed Ardra and Rohini, and I’ve also written in depth about the beautiful dharma of Punarvasu in The Dharma of Punarvasu Nakshatra.

And today, as we are in the beginning of May and the magnolia trees are blooming sharing with us their wisdom, we are moving through the solar light touching the soils and the seasonal and lunar intelligence of Bharani nakshatra, so let’s dive into her spiritual evolution and dharma.

Of soil and stars

As above so within, so before we may understand the celestial wisdom we must first understand the soil and the seasonal intelligence speaking and moving through us. In the Tropical zodiac, Bharani is the time of late April to early May, so it falls in the early degrees and into the heart of Tropical Taurus.

It’s been a month now since the spring equinox, and often around the time of Bharani we also celebrate Easter, which marks the return of light. The beginning of the spring equinox is often a bit more quiet still, the soil is getting ready but not quite ready yet, though it is slowly beginning to reclaim it vitality and the initiatory of light has entered us. Snow has usually melted in most places in the Northern Hemisphere, the weather is warming, the sun is rising higher each day, and the directional winds of the cardinal fire stirs us into passion, and has also brought a certain solar light to us as the flowers are beginning to bloom more gloriously and more widely. It’s as if overnight everything is in bloom. It just feels exciting now, romantic, desirous. And this desire pulls us and our human hands also.

Magnolia trees are usually blooming in this time of year of Bharani, and here they are from our gardens,

Magnolia trees have strong ancient roots symbolizing independence and independent thinking, patience and perseverance, and the need to build solid foundations for beauty and creativity to express itself in its right way. And this is beautifully mirrored through the celestial wisdom of Bharani also.

Bharani is the second nakshatra, or lunar mansion, and she is ruled by Venus. The symbol of this nakshatra is the yoni, or the female reproductive organ, representing Bharani’s fertile nature and feminine energy, and its holding of secrets or mystical knowings that are not always seen by others. Bharani literally means carrying or bearer, which may often refer to carrying responsibilities or ancestral things like a pregnant woman.

Ruled by Venus and with the yoni as her symbol, Bharani natives may have a strong creative urge inside of them. This may be expressed through literally bearing children, or birthing creative projects and expressing yourself through various creative outlets. Sensuality and sexuality usually are quite powerful here, as there is a strong pull and interplay between both the masculine and feminine, because Bharani’s energy is described as one of both Venus and Mars; so Bharani often is a representative of nature’s force which creates attraction between the opposites.

Nakshatra means a lunar mansion, or part of a constellation, fixed star or asterism; it is a celestial womb, and when a seed inside of it, like a planet, it will be nurtured there to be born in a certain way, with a certain nature. Each nakshatra is a wife, a woman, a celestial womb and she is a lunar mansion whose doorways we may enter to see her mystical secrets and wisdoms.

So let’s see where is Bharani found in our sky,

Bharani corresponds to 35, 39 “Lilii Borea” and 41 “Bharani” of the Aries constellation, which in the image above you may find it at the gentle back of the lamb, symbolizing the fertile yoni aspect of this nakshatra. The Aries constellation was traditionally associated with the lamb, who is a very gentle animal, and this particular part of the sky, where we see Bharani is a very sensitive part of the sky, very passionate and creative also, as the energy associated with it is of Venus and Mars according to ancient astronomy.

The stars forming the nakshatra of Bharani actually form the asterism Musca Borealis, which was a constellation on its own back in the day, but is now considered a part of the Aries, so now it is merely called “Musca”. This echoes the independence of Bharani.

Urania’s Mirror -Aries and Musca Borealis, 1825.

Musca Borealis was called the Northern Fly, but originally it was called Apes, meaning “bee”, and bees are known for their feminine energy, creativity and fertility, which all too again beautifully align to Bharani. In an atlas published in 1674, French scientist Ignace-Gaston Pardies named the stars of Musca Lilium, meaning the ‍fleur-de-lis. A ‍trace ‍of ‍it ‍still ‍exists, ‍today, as ‍the ‍star ‍39 ‍Arietis (one of the main stars of Lilium and Musca) ‍is ‍now ‍known ‍as ‍Lilii ‍Borea, ‍the ‍name ‍given ‍to ‍it ‍by ‍Nicolas ‍Louis ‍de ‍Lacaille. The fleur-de-lis as we know holds a depth of mystical wisdoms and esoteric associations.

Bharani holds Lilii Borea, thereby holding the depth of the spiritual symbolism and divine feminine energy within it. There is also often something associated with the maternal lineage with Bharani natives and somehow creating new pathways for its expression or healing of ancestral patterns.

This part of the sky also radiates and illuminates the earthly soils with beautiful feminine energy, creativity and artistry; so many beautiful personal creations as well as flowers and trees may begin to bloom and are nurtured in these lights.

In the Sidereal zodiac, Bharani is found within the degrees of 13-26 Sidereal Aries (depending on which Sidereal system and calculation you are using), and in the Tropical zodiac, Bharani is found within the degrees of 7-20 of Tropical Taurus.

The Spiritual Evolution and Dharma of Bharani

At its highest vibration and manifestation of energy and wisdom, Bharani natives may hold or come to have a deep knowledge of fairness and cosmic justice, and facing karma fearlessly. The more evolved these natives become, the more they understand the universal laws and lead a life of integrity, discipline and respecting the laws of karma and fair exchange. With this knowledge and understanding, they may often even be the ones to help clear or heal ancestral karma or break patterns and renew the lineages into a higher vibration.

These natives are often very independent, and independent thinkers, which we saw in the nature’s wisdom also with the magnolia trees and this seasonal time of year, and if aligned to higher ethics, virtue, wisdom and integrity, they can become very inspiring and lead with fairness.

True and deep integrity may be ingrained on the Bharani path as part of their spiritual evolution and dharma, where the native is aware God is always watching, and would not do something wrong just because no person is watching or unable to hear or see it. If the native chooses the higher path, they will act with fairness and never speak badly about people, never humiliate others, and be mindful of doing harm whether emotionally, verbally or otherwise.

They can be very good at transforming things, and then uniting things. They can transform what needs to be transformed within themselves and in their lineage and then purified, and bring forth new wisdom and new light, whether through their artistry, creativity or otherwise. Remember that this part of the sky was once a constellation on its own; but then became part of the Aries, part of the lamb, birthing new things from a solid understanding and respect to the old and ancient and ancestral.

Bharani is quite a sensual and passionate energy, and they do take great pleasure in the sensory part of life. Their dharma and spiritual evolution is actually a sensory evolution also, because on their dharmic path these natives may often come into the deep understanding that true pleasure are integrity and right living rather than just sensory pleasures. This isn’t a nakshatra about renunciation, but neither is it one to over-indulge in, because this may lead them astray. Venusian ruled it is important for them to enjoy the sensory experience and not deny themselves sensory pleasures, but it is also about understanding that there needs to be balance between both the spiritual and material worlds.

Bharani nakshatra is part of the Vishnu trimurti, so essentially, it is about devotion. She shows us that true wealth is spiritual wealth, and that devotion is the vail through which awareness shows its beautiful face. For all Vishnu nakshatras, including Bharani, the higher purpose and dharma is always to dive deeper within, learn compassion and true love, and purify ourselves from false desires.

Connected to Lakshmi, Bharani reminds us that being vulnerable is not a weakness, it is a power – because it gives the divine a purpose; a purpose to have something it desires to save, help, protect and preserve. Through Bharani’s dharmic path, we realize a purpose to fight for what we truly love and what truly matters to us and to protect the more vulnerable.

The Vishnu trimurti essentially gives us that which we can learn love through. Bharani gives us a responsibility and something to protect or preserve; and she gives us an opportunity to learn the difference between lust and love, and between that which is temporary and that which is not, so that we do not sacrifice real connection for false ones.

For all of us, the solar light of Bharani during this time of year reminds us of the solid foundations we need to build, with respect and with patience and with maturity, aligned to integrity and higher values, so that we can create beautiful meaningful things. There is a responsibility we hold in the way we act and treat others, and a mindful of what we ourselves feed on and nurture.

How do we choose to move through life, whom do we choose to be, how do we choose to create. Beauty is something that moves us, but true beauty is what is within our hearts. The magnolias may come and go, but what stays is the fragrance – and how we feel because of them, and through this gentleness we may touch other hands also. Touch is not merely about physical touch; the spiritual purpose of touch is to touch hearts also through the way we move through life with others. It is a deepening.

Patience and kindness of rhythm, gentleness and respect, and holding ourselves to high values and having a strong spiritual core as our solid foundations are the dharmic teachers of this time of year with Bharani. The wisdom she holds in her celestial lunar mansion is that integrity and right living are indeed what become the greatest pleasure for the soul.
